Ok, im trying to decide which Excal. crossbow to get. I want to be able to hunt dear, turkey, and bear in Ontario Canada. is there a minimun draw weight for these species?
i dont want to spend over $600 if possible. Drawing a 200# is no problem, even though im 15. ive been in martial arts for 8 years and i am in extreme physical shape.
Which one to get??
i dont really want to spend almsot $700 on the Exocet 200.
im thinking Pheonix or Vixen.... i cant really decide, and thats why im asking you guys!
so if you could help me out, that would be greatly appreciated. maby name some pro's and con's...

Ok, i have decided to go with an Excalibur....
The phoenix or vixen will do the trick on just about anything that walks the woods in North America. The key is always, shot placement. There was a thread a while back where a guy took a huge bull moose with a vixen. You could probably pick one up for your budget with enough accessories to get you hunting if you look at a used one. I got my Exocet for about $460 and it came with a scope, arrows, quiver and string. All I really needed was some broadheads.
These bows really hold there value too, so you may not get a huge savings buying used, but it will be a bit cheaper. They are built to last also, so it should last you for a very long time.

I hunt for memories, the meat's a bonus!
thanks, ive been into air rifles, and i know that shot placement is key. with a 7.9grn pellet at 480fps, i have dropped well over 15 squirrels from 2-25 yards, which is a damn challenge seeing as you only have less than 5fpe to work with. hehe
Do you think i should get a used crossbow? ive taken my chances with used stuff before, and some of it is just crap. i think i would feel better knowing that i have baught a brand new xbow.
also, do these xbows come with warrenties? or do you have to purchase them... or will you even need one.
thanks again.

What I did is bought my bow first. Went to a sporting goods store and got 2 arrows so I could shoot my bow. Then I looked at ebay and picked up six arrows ( Gold Tip laser II ) cheap. Bought 3 broad heads off ebay a month or so later. A few week before season bought my varizone scope. If you can not find a good used one in your price range. Shop around some. You do not need everything all at once. Buy a little @ a time.
The Vixen is nice and with good shot placement it will kill a moose. If it was me I would get the Phoenix or get the older 175# Exocet.
We can not and should not choose for you. You need to buy what is best for you.

Any of the Excaliburs will work for the game you listed. I'm using a Phoenix, but would just as soon have a Vixen if they still offered it in the deluxe camo version, or even the old black version. Sorry, but I just don't like the looks of the brown model.
Stature can be more of an issue than physical strength with a crossbow. I'm short and the repeated cocking of the longer power stroke models is a lot more work. My best analogy would be - The Vixen is like picking up a 200# barbell and raising it to your knees, the Phoenix is raising it to your waist, the Exocet to your chest, and the Exomax would be like pressing it overhead. You're giont to enjoy practice a lot more with the lighter models, and how many shots at living game are you really going to take? A lot better to have to get a few yards closer than to lack the ability to hit them in the first place!

i understand they are hard to cock, at my cottage, my neighbor has an excot 200, he hunts bear with it, and ive cocked it many times. so i undersand the difficulty of it. i want to be able to have long plinking sessions, that is why im going to go with the Vixen or Phoenix. i will pick up a copy of the tri-ads, i actually have a few of them, i was looking for a rear wheel for my mini bike that i made.
thanks for all the help guys!

Based on my experience, don't be afraid to buy a used Excalibur. They are top of the line and hold up for years. I bought an Exocet on ebay in '99 and have taken over 20 whitetails without fail. It's time for a new string but other than that, it shoots like new. Shop around and you may get lucky. Good hunting........

Even being in good shape, get the rope cocking aid, for acuracy reasons. I would go for the phoenix.Allan.L wrote:Ok, im trying to decide which Excal. crossbow to get. I want to be able to hunt dear, turkey, and bear in Ontario Canada. is there a minimun draw weight for these species?
