Rage or Slik Trick broadheads??

Post by joeumholtz »

Does anyone have any experience shooting either Rage or Slik trick broadheads from a crossbow. I favor mechanicals but not sure what ones will work with the crossbow. I shoot an Exocet 200 lb

I prefer Slicks. Four blade cut and flies pretty good. I have never tried the mechs.

For Mechanicals, I use the NAP Spitfire mechanicals. Never had a problem with them. Just make sure that if you use any mechanical head, do the proper maintance to maintain it ability to stay closed in flight.

My Excalibur quickly put down 9 whitetail using Rocket mechanicals in the 108 gr, 4 blade, 2"x2" cut(hard to find, 3 blade 100's easy).Bent a few blade, but none broke.
My longest tracking job was about 60 yards.
I made sure to triple band them.
Just last week placed an order for the 06 100gr Slicks from Slick Trick to try out in my wifes Max, while I will continue to use the Rockets in my updated Exocet.

I only shoot mechanicals anymore. Like Tom I am a Spitfire freak and they do not require a rubber o ring. They are cammed and produce awesome results.

Rage is a new release this year. I have bought 2 packs of of 3 and they come with a practice head also. I like the concept of cut on contact and their video show some great footage compared to an over-the-top mechanical like the Stiletto (which also performs really well but has o rings). Since I am a mechanical dude I am looking forward to judging how the Rage does this season. I have shot lots of deer and some pretty good sized one with both the mechanicals mentioned. They never fail me. However, the Rage utilizes more of the energy for penetration. Pass through are no problems with mechanicals. I like the fact with over-the top mechanical, the cutting edge of the blade is protected by the cam; unlike broad heads that are exposed to the bump and grind of being exposed when in the quiver or on the xbow. Mechanical saves its sharpness for when it is needed. Just like my Katana, it never leaves the protection of the scabbard unless it has serious business at hand.
