outlook for 2006's deer crop

Post by wabi »

Just got the feeder operating and a some beans planted a few days ago, but decided to sit in the blind for a while this morning. Took my 6 year old son with me. It can be a real challenge to keep him occupied & quiet, but despite the fidgeting and whispering this little guy decided to munch a few sprouting soybeans. When the fawn appeared my son was well entertained & hardly moved!

Thats the way to raise your boy. Start him early and keep him involved in doing things & being with you as much as possible. You know what seperates a good father from a great father? Just more time spent giving them love & attention.

I took my granddaughter hunting when she was age six. We sat there for a couple of hours before a doe came very cautiously within 30 yards before my granddaughter sighted it. When she sighted it, she jumped up shouting "Pap, shoot, shoot shoot!!!". As the doe ran off, she asked me "Pap, why didn't you shoot"?

Needless to say we did not get a deer that day but it was one of my most memorible outting with my granddaughter.

I call my son my huntin good luck charm. He's 6 now but when he was 2 we went for a drive and I connected with my first buck ever. Since then he's been with me for probably another 8 animals or more.

There's nothin like seein the pride in his eyes and feelin his little hand slappin me on the shoulder on the drive home, sayin "Good job Dad! Great buck!".

He probably goes on at least 6 day hunts a year with me as an observer.

I bought him (and me) some PC Games like big game hunter, etc and he loves them. There's few games out there that penalize you for unsportsman like ethics, etc which has also given him an appreciation for understanding the basics of ethics, even at his tender age.

Anyways, I love spending time with him just as I know many of you do with your kids.

The time we spend with them now are experiences that they will never forget and teaches them skills that too many kids are never fortunate enough to experience and learn.

Here's to the kids! Cheers everyone!
Give a kid a fish and they'll eat for a day, teach a kid to fish and they'll eat for a lifetime!
