This is how I remove them.
Insert a field tip and heat field tip with a small propane torch.
Pull insert out when hot, 5-10 seconds on low heat is all it takes.
Use a bore brush to clean out the inside and final clean with accetone before regluing.

I use a longer bolt, put one end in the vise and heat the bolt about 2" from the shaft.
I clean the inside of the shaft with a Q-tip and acetone, I like the idea of a bore brush though, sounds more thorough.

I just cut the shaft and peel the carbon away. Its rare that I need to do this. I've never found that an inch difference in shaft length makes any practical difference. Recently I've been very happy using the Bohning hot melt glue on all my arrows except the ones with HIT inserts.

Agreed. What I should have said is. I've never found that an inch difference in shaft length makes any practical difference when hunting deer because I am not shooting at a minuscule dot on a target. I am looking for repeatable "minute of death" when I am hunting deer.bstout wrote:Cutting the shaft shorter increases the spine of the arrow.
It also decreases the weight and the FOC.
