Varizones and slick tricks

Post by trapper »

Hi guys,

Was just out shooting the Exomag for the first time this year with broadheads. All other shooting this year was done using field points. I had the ring on the varizone set on the 5 of the 325 mark. After making a small adjustment to the scope to get my slicks hitting the bullseye (was hitting about 1" low and 1" left every time) I started to move back to 30 and 40 yards too see how well the slicks shot at longer distances. I was a little high at 30 yards and about 6" high at 40 yards. All shooting was done from a bench to try and eliminate as much error as possible. To make a long story short I ended up moving the ring on my Varizone from the 5 of the 325 mark to the 0 of the 350 mark to hit my marks dead on at 30 and 40 yds. I was wondering if this is normal or if anybody else has noticed the same thing when using the same weight broadheads and practice points?

Almost forgot the field points and the slick tricks are both 100g.

Trapper,

I have found that the Slick Tricks shoot best if you line up the blades vertically and horizontally. I put 2 consecutive Slick Tipped arrows in the same hole at 40 yards a couple of weeks ago. I was shooting off of a monopod. I didn't have to make any adjustments to the scope at all.

Thanks guys for the tips. I am really not new to the forum. I became a member about 4 years ago and was pretty active when I first became a xbow shooter. I have not hunted in the last 2 years due to work (new Job), so the xbow has been sitting colllecting dust. This year things things are finally starting to run smoothlyand I am finding myself with more spare time, for me there is no better way to spend my spare time then out in the woods hunting. It 's always been a passion of mine.

I don't know what happened to my membership, but it got deleted? I guess the lack of posting for the last 2 years.

Anyways, the slick tricks group really good for me regardless which bolts I am shooting but they all shoot high at longer distances compared to field points. I have treid them with my gold tips that weigh 375g, powerbolts that weigh 410g and with some carbon express that weigh 430g. All have 2" blazers and 14-15% foc.

I was just curiuos to see if this was a common thing or if it was just me. I am happy with the results, just couldn't figure why the big change on the speed dial. All the bolts that I tested shoot pretty equal to one another. The gold tips did require a little extra weight up front to get them up to par with the broadheads.

I did weight the field points and the slick tricks all are within a reasonable margin of 100g. I can't remember the excat tolerances off of my head. Do you think that the slick tricks are planeing? The repeatability is really good if they are......Just thinking out loud

Probally the best mod that I had done was polishing up the latch (piece that grips the string) and taking the creep out of the trigger. I had it done by a member on her by the name of "BJ", Wayne. Is he still around?
