I ALMOST HAD ONE TONIGHT!!!

Post by TYE »

I was sitting in my treestand tonight and this stupid partridge was getting on my nerves, so I had enough of it and was gonna shoot him. When I noticed something moving out in the field. I looked through the scope... A BUCK! So I make my way down the ladder and to the field. The back walked past the truck, and I noticed 2 does about 150 yards away. So I crawled on my belly and stopped everytime the one put her head up to look. She put her head down I would start crawling again. Then I made a few grunts and she started walking towards me. She got about 60 yards away, then stopped. Turned and jumped into the bush. The smaller doe was about 20 yards behind her and was standing there staring at me, then the first doe wheezed at me and started running around. (Couldn't see her but I could hear it.) Then the other doe jumped into the bush too and they ran for a minute then I couldn't hear them anymore.

I've never been so frustrated or ticked off in my life! GRRR Talk about getting the blood pumping.

Oh well, I always have after the firearm hunt to get another chance! :P

I leave tomorrow morning for a 2 week gun hunt trip. Talk to ya'll in a few weeks. :) Good luck to all you gun hunters! :) And those who will still be using crossbows in their area. :D

I got bored at one point and I couldn't hear anything with all the damn squirrels and partridge around so I took some pictures from my stand.

Thanks :-) Sorry they're poor quality... took them with my cell phone, though my cell phone takes pretty decent pictures for a cell phone lol.

Tye,

Don't feel bad. It's quite a feat to stalk a whitetail to within bow range. Everything has to be in your favor. I had one follow my scent trail into my stand a few days ago before light. It followed the trail right to the base of the tree and circle three times. It was only 15ft below me and I could hear every breath and sniff :D . It was trying to figure out how the doe climbed the tree  . That warmed me up in a hurry. It wouldn't stick around until light, so no shot oppertunity, but still fun.

Keep putting your time in and eventually you will connect. My first season with the bow, I hunted hard all season and only connected on December 28th!

Tye,
Good luck on your hunting trip!
Still a lot more fun to shoot 'em at 15 yards with the crossbow, though.

It felt like I was playing those Deer Hunter games, crawling up on the deer. It was honestly just so cool to put a deer in the scope. It was one of the coolest things I've done deer hunting before. I've never crawled up on a deer, yet been able to sneak up so close to one. And still not close enough to shoot. :(

Oh well, that's bow hunting.

I've got the itch so bad now.

Tye I noticed something weird about your bow... i dont know how i noticed it but your quiver mount in the pictures seems to be switching sides... in the second picture down its on the right side of the bow. then in the 10th picture its not shown on the left side and in the 11th its on the right side but in the 12th picture its not on the right side. and in the 13th its on what would be the left side of the bow. do you switch this while your in the stand?

I saw this topic and thought it would be a great chance to rib Tye about that string being responsible, looks like I was too late.

Who sits in their stand and takes pictures of themselves??

Depending on the way my cell phone camera is it takes the pictures flipped. I noticed the same thing then clued in on it.

Well the deer weren't coming anywhere close to my stand, and I was tucked in from a field about 50 - 60 yards or so, and I noticed some deer walking way out in the field hundreds of yards from me and it was coming close to the end of hunting time and decided I was going to stalk them and try to sneak up close enough for a shot, because they were out there feeding and definitely not coming anywhere near the stand.
