Some cool shots from last week of May 2008

Post by R.J. »

Some geese at the swamp pond ... manual focus through the trees ... color and composition caught my eye ...

Image

Further into the swamp ... I spot this very large snapping turtle out on a mound ..

Image

No choice but to wade in thru the black muck choked swamp to get an angle on him that would provide a good picture ... The black muck sucked the sandals off my feet ... I lost the sandals , but at least I got the shot !!

Image

Check out the paws and claws on him !! ..

Image

One last frame from the front before he dove for cover ...

Image

Later I bump into a hawk and two turkey vultures ... close to the spot I got shots awhile ago ... maybe they travel together and have this routine down pat !

Image

As I get closer for a shot , the hawk spooks and flys into the tree over my right shoulder ... he switches postion on the branch and watches the vultures ... he must have had his fill !

Image

Image

Image

I walk closer to get a picture of the vultures close up , but they walk away ... I sit and wait approx 8 feet way and eventually one vulture walks in and takes over the carcass ...

Image

Image

As I walk around the pond I get a quick frame of a red wing black bird taking advantage of some old barbed wire in the grass for a perch !

Image

Some cool frames ... going into the last week of May 2008

I know very little about raptors but this hawk is called red tailed hawk
Just thought I'd offer that info :-)

I saw a few Red Wing's chasin eachother around the other day :)

I hate turkey vultures though. I passed out one time on the moose hunt, and woke up to a turkey vulture staring down at me from a branch no 2 feet above my head. Sure made me jump.
