I came across the same looking track last year on my lease. I also compared it to a cig. pack I had on me but the pics are on my phone. If I had a way of posting I would. I came to the conclusion that it was a black panther which we are known to have here. Only thing that came close is the bobcat, but never seen one capable of making such a stand out track of that size. Do you have panther or cougars in your area? That would be my guess. :?

Every time you kill a coyote an angel gets a set of wings. OK, I made that up. But it should be the case.

You can see the nail prints in the photo--we have panthers in my area, the only fresh track i have come across from one was rather large but it had no visible claw marks

Here's the biggest tom bobcat I've ever seen on my farm:

This one was a whopper. I'd guess 30 pounds, and I can usually guess pretty close. He's a lot bigger than the average around here.

Cat tracks seldom show claw marks, unless they're taking off, jumping, running, climbing, or have slipped.

Could be coyote, or could be a large dog. The two center toenails on a coyote track are usually closer together, but with only one track it's hard to identify positively.

Dont know if this helps but here is a comparison....Hope you dont mind Sliver I played with your pic a little??

Wolf tracks:

Cougar tracks:

Cougar tracks are retractable so there should be no claws showing.

I agree with Wabi that it is difficult to be positive with one track. When taking a closer look at the track it looks to me like there is possibly a track over a track confusing things a little....

Just my opinion from up here in the cheap seats,

I like how you posted that Sandman! Another great example of how with the wealth of knowledge this forum has there isn't much that can't be answered! By looking at it with Sandmans addition I would say the wolf or a large dog.

Coy-dog is also a possibility. Hybrids can grow bigger than coyotes, will be feral, and less fear of humans.

To me it is a dog of some sorts.
Depends on the size.
I have seem some large wolf track, same size as the moose it was following.
Around SW Ontario there are a lot of half breed coyotes, as stated earlier coy-dogs, some get very large.

My money is on a coyote or half breed.
