Hope others did better than me. I took my son out and he's about fed up. For the fourth straight hunt we've seen nothing while sitting. We did jump a small doe as we were walking out. She's lucky she didn't stop and look back.

We heard two shots within a half mile and about a half dozen others. The wind was whipping here probably 10-15mph with some gusts higher. You weren't going to hear anything walking. I think that may have slowed their movements.

I did see one nice buck rub, so I guess it wasn't a wasted trip. I'll be back out about 2pm to sit till dark. I want to see what made that rub.

Good luck.

CF - A friend once sent me a little unit that looks like a call - it's supposed to silence a cough... I think it's called a cough silencer (original name  ) One more thing for the pack.... LOL

It's really warm here again too. Going out shortly to sit in the woods and kill more mosquitoes.

Happy hunting everyone!

Crazy...you're a fellow VA. member and I was wondering if you're hitting the rattling bat and grunt calls yet?

thanks

smokepolehall,

Same here. I sat for about four hours yesterday morning then about 5 more yesterday evening. I saw nothing but squirrels while sitting both times. This makes six consecutive sits that I haven't seen a deer. This really stinks. It was a bit warm (60s) so maybe that's it.

I have off six of the twelve days of the VA black powder season. If I don't start seeing something soon I may just go back to work. :(

They aren't rutting yet in my area.

yes, ive rattled in 2 so far.. but i rattle lightly and for about 10-15seconds since we dont have many mature bucks in my area. If there is, he thinks 2 smaller bucks are sparring so he comes in to show them who's boss.

Ive been hitting the can and grunt call together with good luck also

Vix, I have one and that was around my neck the whole time. It works, just have to know how to cough into it before it helps :D
