A month of pics/hawk mount

Post by chris4570 »

Here's a collection of pics from the past month or so. I've been meaning to post some of them for a while but just haven't got around to it.

A little garter snake trying to hide.

A late bloomer. This cicada was out and about during the first week of October!!

This locust was nicely backlit by a setting sun.

4 bearded birds showed up while I was in my stand(one was left out of the pic). They came within ten yards of me while I sat in my stand. I guess the camo works pretty good. It appears as though my stand, with the nice horizontal platform had been used for roosting on many occasions. There was a build up of turkey droppings. :D

The beauty of fall. Red leaves and a crossbow.

This curious fellow watched me for a few minutes.

Did you know raccoons snore??? These ones were snoring, otherwise I wouldn't have known they were there.. You can just make out the ear of a second coon.

Grasshopper!

Grasshopper #2!!
Image

Brightly coloured milkweed beetles warning potential predators of their toxic taste.
Image

Frosty morning sunrise.

The next three are pics of the hawk I found this past spring. I just got it back from the taxidermist. They did a fantastic job!! I did the iron work. The mount has 3 pivot points so the hawk can be displayed from different angles without having to move it.

Great pics!!!!!!!!
Several of them got a closer look from me.
Was there any difficulty in getting permission to keep the hawk & have it mounted?

I had to have the hawk checked out by the Ministry of Natural Resources. I was then given a permit to keep it.

You and your camera sure have been busy. Awesome pics. You SHOULD consider contacting some magazines. I met a guy from Ontario Out Of Doors a few years ago that asked me to send him wildlife pics if I got some good ones. I'll give you his contact info.

Do you still have to send birds of prey to guelph for x-ray for the permit?

I brought the hawk to the MNR in Guelph. They took it out of sight so I'm really not sure what they did with it. But they do have to be brought in, and you have to get the proper paperwork in order to keep it or have it mounted. The taxidermist wouldn't take it without a copy of the possesion permit.

What kind of camera are you using? The shots really are spectacular.

Thanks. I use a Canon S3. It's a point and shoot.
