How true is this?

Post by mailman1 »

I was working with these old time [80+] Portuguese men and they say if you have a tough piece of venison, to marinate it in coca cola. They said it tenderizes it and melts in your mouth. Anyone heard of this? Can't try it, got a little button buck, so it's already tender.

Never tried it, but I've had one that would probably save crawled out of the coke or curdled it!
A co-worked gave me a roast out of one he wounded then chased with dogs (also very illegal) several years ago, and that thing was not edible!

My Mom used to use Cola for beef roasts - it carmelizes and tenderizes. Mmmmm.....

Wabi they say that if a deer is scared when you kill it or chase it and kill it the adrenaline rush it has at that time is what ruins the meat or makes it different than it would have been....dont know for sure but thats what I heard..

Hey ,when I have a tough, piece of deer I marinade it in beer ,then through out the deer out and drink the beer. No not realy I use a slowcooker and it tenderizes just about any kind of tough meat. Works great. Jerry

Try equal parts coke and ketchup, I like to use about a litre of each and marinate in a large ziplock all day in the fridge and and then put it in a roast pan with all the coke and ketchup and wahtever spices you like in the oven and cook as normal or put it in the slowcooker.

Anything that is acidic will tenderize meat. Coke, pineapple juice, cool aid, etc.
