It's sad to read how well meaning folks get into trouble trying to make their cross bows quieter.

There is ONLY ONE WAY to use foam so deer won't hear your cross bow when it's fired. That's right. ONE WAY. It will work, too.

Just fill the deer's ears with foam. That's the only way it won't hear you shoot.

If the noise bothers you, the shooter, you can fix that problem with foam. Fill YOUR ears with foam.

Otherwise, forget about foam. Forget about the noise of your shot. The deer is going to hear either of two things--a slightly muffled sound of a shot, or, a shot.

So, unless you can eliminate ALL the sound of your shot, or speed up the bolt to be faster than the speed of sound, there's no point in worrying about it.

Just leave the bow alone.
It's fine the way it comes from the factory.

foam in my trigger

Post by Belt&Suspenders »

My bride of 28 years took pity on me and picked out the hardened foam from my trigger assembly tonight. Took a long time but it's out now. And yes I learned my lesson. Thanks for the input guys. Harry

This is a lesson in human nature, nothing more and nothing less.

No right or wrong to it.

Some folks are tinkerers and tweakers.

Some folks leave well enough alone.

As with many opposing human behaviors, a certain dynamic tension exists between these two classes.

If everybody left well enough alone, no advancements in design would be made.

If everyone tinkered and tweaked, no workable design would long endure.

Whatever our own tendencies, we need each other! :D

It seems obvious to me that Bill T. must be a strange synthesis of the two ... he's a tinkerer and tweaker who leaves well enough alone!

And aren't we all glad he is? 8) :?:
