First harvest with my crossbow!

Post by Rubberdown »

I got the Phoenix about 4 seasons ago and only got out with it a dozen times since then due to work and such. Last season I took my first deer with the crossbow and I was pretty impressed. I used to hunt with a regular compound bow and I got dear if I was out there consistently, but I also missed deer from time to time. Anyways, this buck (big body, my neighbor says at least 250 pounds gutted, really small 3 point rack) comes out and doesnt give me a good shot until hes only about 10 or 12 yards from my stand. I pulled the trigger and thought for sure I missed the big bastard, he just stood there for a few seconds, stomped his foot, and walked about 20 yards away behind a low bush I could see from my stand. I was actually quite upset with myself for missing him since I did that once before with my compound when the deer was soo close, sniffing my climbing pegs, I missed him using the sights due to inexperience. So here I thought the same thing. As it got time to leave, about 30 minutes later, I climbed down and went over to my arrow that I pretty much had to dig out of the ground, and it was COVERED in blood. This shot was soo fast, it went right through him so good that he never new he was hit. He walked about 20 yards, and laid down.

Anyways, thats my first kill with an awesome product, I love the bow, I love the cocking rope, and I love the graduated scope, I just wish I had more time to get out there and get a deer every season.

I have pretty much decided on the phoenix, mostly because of the good package that comes with it. Glad to here its so good. I shot one at fin and feather the other day and was absolutely amazed at the speed. I wating for my state permit to get here alowing me to use a crossbow here in Iowa. Have to have permenant disablility. I have carpal tunnel I guess. Will do surgery after the first of the year. I hate to buy anything untill I have the permit in hand. dan
