Picked up my first Crossbow!

Post by mattones »

Tonight i picked up a used Exocet 200 for about $450. Included I got 'exocet scope, 2 new strings, qiver real tree camo patern, the VHS, String/Deck Wax'

The Crossbow is pretty mint other then a few front rusty screws and a few little paint chips. Tomorrow i hope to switch strings and give it a few shots after I buy some bolts on Saturday. :D I'm thrilled to own an Excal!

I was just told this may not be an Exocet 200? ''It has the way old carved tip limbs, probably NOT the fwd angled riser''

i was just about to point out that that doesn't look like an exocet 200. it looks like an exocet 165. as far as i know the exocet 200's never had carved tips they were all mag tips also i believe all exocet 200's were realtree camo. one thing for sure don't put a fast flight string on it, it will destroy those carved tips . either way enjoy and congrats

The string i got with the Crossbow is a 'Excal STND String 2010' it states on it (For Carved tip Limbs only)

is that fine?

i like aluminum myself but its personal preference. there is probably no topic that is more divided than aluminum vs carbon. i would say for 450 you got a good deal and as you said it is an excal that is all that matters

That is what they call an Exomag with carved limbs and cast riser. It has a 16" powerstroke, 185lbs draw weight, and rated at 290FPS. The last year of production I believe was 2000-2001. The camo finish is called "Trailcover Permagraphix". The scope on it looks like a DropZone, which is a fixed scope good for bows rate at 300FPS, the quiver is from an Excalibur Exocet with 4 colour (house camo).
Take care with the string your use, as the only string that can be used on this bow is Dacron, as a FFF string will damage the limbs tips.

It was superseded by the magtipped Exomag, which had the newer "CNC" machined straight riser, a 16.5" power stroke, 200lbs draw weight, and rated at 325FPS because of the extra 1/2" powerstroke. When the angled forward riser was introduced, the Exomag became the Exomax, with the same powerstroke, but 225lbs drawweight, and 250FPS.

The riser on your Exocet 165 is indeed a "machine aluminum" straight riser, which was made using a CNC machine, henced "machined".

Mattones' riser is the older "cast" (i.e. poured) straight riser.
