Definitely a difficult decission and spent alot of time looking at all of the pictures. But first choice for me is going to DoeMaster with his picture that he posted of his friend. His picture met all of "my criteria" of what I wanted to see in a picture. It had a good scene, good shot of the deer, the happy hunter, and last but not least the crossbow in the picture. There were definitely alot of great pictures and had a hard choice not to pick Crazyfarmers close up of him with his buck and I still think one of the best posed pictures, but no crossbow in it for me. And all of Woodys pics were great but the crossbow wasn't in any of them. Not that they had to be for the contest but something that I wanted to see.

I also like the grouse pic taken by frenchman. Like Ecoaster said it is different. There was thought taken as far as composition, focal point. It really stands out, as does the subtle beauty of the grouse in the pic. I would put that picture on my wall.
You can take the man out of the woods but you can't take the woods out of the man.

Time for me to chime in with my votes.
First, I love R.J.'s photos but I am throwing him out. I love ya R.J. but I also love a level playing field. And my friend, you are a spectacular photographer and I think your amateur status is far behind you. Think of it this way, if we ever have a forum short story contest would you let me enter? I know you didn't take the pic's you are in but it is guilt by association. And if I had to vote for any of your pic's my favorite is the one of the kids with the truck and you can hardly see the deer.
Second, I had to overcome my tendency to look at antlers and nothing else in the photos. My inclination is to immediately pick the best racks. But this is a photo contest, not an antler contest. That being said, I love the photos with the following racks.
Fishn-hunter with that great buck in the snow.
Desertrat with the buck in the woods at night.
Peach with the fabulous buck in the snow.
Doemaster picture of the buck in the snow I really liked as well.
Of the doe pictures I really thought the following pic's were special.
Ger34 with the picture of the doe in the snow.
Smokepole hal picture of the doe next to the log, she just looks peaceful.
Jeeptag doe in the garden was well done.
I am also a sucker for any pic's with kids and/or dogs.
I just love the picture of Planter with the Brit. It's a classic.
I like the picture of jeeptag in the snow with the baby.
The picture with Catcher in the snow with the kids was really special.
And in the "I want to party with these guys" category goes to every picture with uncle fester and the guys having a celebratory cocktail after the hunt. You guys would fit in well up at our farm!
It was very hard to narrow down a winner as everyone is a winner in my book. I wanted to vote for saxmans little buck, but that would be me voting with my heart, and he knows he already has that.
In the end I am giving my vote to Catcher. Every time I see the picture I smile. The kids tip the balance beam for me. I just can't help it; there is nothing more important in my life then children.
And you thought it was antlers didn't ya!
