Bowkaddy

Am I missing something on how this would work with a crossbow?
Thanks to Bambiblaster for posting the link to my e-newsletter. This is where most of the pictures and info pertaining to the crossbow application are found.

The stresses imposed on the limbs should be less of a concern if you consider the fact that Bowkaddy is designed to flex under rigorous trail conditions. In fact, the wider the distance between the limb grips, the more "shock-absorbing bounce" the system has, which reduces the amount of shock forces on the crossbow itself. In my experience with my Excalibur, albeit somewhat limited (only owned for 5 months), the triple-point support system of Bowkaddy seems to work extremely well. Feel free to pm me if you want to look at some of the other pics that were not posted to the website.

Just for the record, Bowkaddy is not "by" Wyvern Creations; Wyvern is one of my dealers, but Alaris Concepts is the owner.

Thanks for the clarification.

When I went to the site I only saw the bowkaddy part and not the third part, the stock support.

With the addition of the stock support I can see how the crossbow would be held. My concern was using the bowkaddy without the stock support yoke and the stress it would put on the limbs.

While I think the product is ingenious and certainly applicable for use with a compound or recurve bow, I do not see any advantages over typical rifle holders for transporting the excalibur while using the ATV.

I realized after a few minutes that you were likely looking at pictures of the product with compound bows (minus the gun grip for crossbow stock support). At any rate, I'm sure others were wondering the same thing, so the clarification was good.

To be honest, I've never used the rifle grips alone to support my crossbow. They obviously work very well for some people. The reason I authored the e-newsletter on the crossbow application was in response to the high volume of feedback I got from hunters at the Toronto Sportsman's show earlier this year. The first day of the show, we only had compound bows on the ATV in the booth. Hunter after hunter would stop by and ask, "Great, but does it work for my crossbow?" By day 2, we had an Excalibur and a gun grip on display. I think it depends somewhat on what kind of rifle grips you have and what type of crossbow you have. There's a certain amount of "wobble" in the weapon if the limbs are not supported in any way, and the acceptability of this will vary from person to person.

Excellent point! The "three point" stance of the bowkaddy plus the stock yoke is certainly a more secure system then just two yokes as is the norm with rifle carriers. You are also correct that rifle holders vary in design and some grip more securely then others. On the other hand, using the rifle holders allows you to also carry a rifle (duh) or shotgun without having to change out the bowkaddy and adding a forearm yoke.

I think the bowkaddy is a very ingenious product and I love the pickup truck application (lockable). As I also hunt with a compound I will be buying the bowkaddy for use when I use my Firecat.

I think I will have rifle carriers on the front of the Rubicon and a bowkaddy on the back. Now if you come up with a way where you combine the bowkaddy with a conventional yoke with flip up and flip down capability for selection of either you will really have something. That way you coulld carry crossbows or long guns with just one system.

Thanks for responding in this thread bowkaddyguy. It is always nice to see new and innovative products discussed and yours certainly qualifies.

If nothing else, you sold me one!

Anytime, Mike. And you can be sure I've thought alot about the rifle application. Perhaps next year you'll see some interchangeable swing arms for rifle stocks! That's the plan, providing the budget cooperates.
