something new on cuddeback to hunt:)

Post by crazyfarmer »

coyotes have been making there way here into Va. I have never seen one and im hunting or in the woods alot. I checked a cuddeback during some downtime this weekend and guess what. Coyotes on camera!! I was shocked at first. I didnt realize how big they were compared to a red fox. I have 8 pictures of them in the same location. I believe its 4 or 5 different ones but definitely a male and female in this picture. Cant wait for one of these to come by;)

I was on stand last year the Saturday after Thanksgiving. I heard a doe bleat, then really turn on the terror cries, then go silent, when it got light, I could see a red smear on the hay field to my back, about 6 yotes had caught the full grown doe, and had eaten her down to the leg bones and spine in less than 30 minutes from the time I heard her first bleat till I could see. I rifle hunt with a single shot, so I only got one of them.

I have seen them work a bedding area like a pack of beagle hounds, two stay to either side of the thick stuff, while the rest go through like jump dogs. I hunt them with a passion, right now is a good time to get the young of the year, they are stupid compared to mom and pop.

I set my Bandit out at about 50 yards from my stand every time I rifle hunt, when I get ready to get down, I play the rabbit blues in hope of drawing one out in the open. I knocked off 8 like that last year.

I shoot every one I can, every time I can.

If those are in the area where you lost your buck, you would know if they found him. You'd hear yipping and howling like crazy. In my old hunting area, if you did not find your deer that night they would. And they leave nothing worth saving.

They will also devistate your fawn crop in the spring.

Can you legally hunt them in VA?

Legal in VA, in fact no closed season on private land.

CF,

Those look like some very large and healthyyotes for our area, you need to take them out before they wreck your deer and turkey population.

Crazy ! Sorry to say. Once those stinkin things get into your area they are very hard to get rid of. We use to have red foxes all over the place and since the coyotes started coming in, they killed and chased off all of our foxes. Foxes will not hurt the deer population, coyotes will. In the dead of winter they will harass the weak deer until they have no energy left . Get yourself a rifle and shoot some coyotes in the off season. Its a lot of fun !

They have been here in this area for ten yrs. I've killed two in the last 4yrs, in 07 over 5000 were killed in the state of Va. by hunters according to the DNR.

I've killed 2 coyotes with my Exocet in 12yrs. and it's not easy to do. Unlike a deer, if a coyote is walking by you you can't stop him by yelling HEY! They will bolt everytime. I shot both of mine while they were walking. Held my bow in one spot steady and when the tip of his nose hit the peep I fired. I kill several coyotes a year with my rifle but it's a great feeling to cap one with a X-bow. Gary

Here in nebraska there is no season on coyotes. we shoot em any chance we get. They have done enormous damage to our pheasant population.

We have no shortage of coyotes around here. They're filthy thick, running the coon hounds at night you always here them fighting over the coon after we skin it out. There are no cotton tails around anymore. And they breed so rapidly. Open season around here I keep meaning to get a remote controlled decoy and get out with the .22-250 and do some damage.
