Warm weather

Post by Archery Newbie »

Just got back from another morning of beautiful sun and warm temperatures. I've spent the last 3 days in my climber, without seeing a single deer! And these were full days, up in the stand before sunup, until darkess. Today I decided to do some walking, but lots of sign and that's it. Not sure if there are alot of people on here from Northern Ontario (Sudbury area) But I'm thinking the rut hasn't started with the warm weather we've been having. I've only seen a few rubs this year, nothing major.....any thoughts/ideas? By the way, my new Summit Goliath SS is awesome! Comfortable, quiet, lightweight.....the only problem is the tendency to fall asleep while in it!

I think I found your problem.
I'd rather wear out than rust out.

Just do what I did. Find a tree that branches out above a creek, and get as high as possible in that tree.(not that kind of high) I guarantee you will stay awake

BTW, I didnt see anything today either

During bow season I saw a average of six deer between the hours of 6:00 am and 12:30 pm.

Now…..for the first two days of muzzleloading I didn't see anything.

Yesterday I thought I would give a few grunts and after about five minutes, someone started grunting back.
I’ve never heard so much grunting from a deer and I think that deer gave me a few lessons on grunting.
Well, after a short while, I thought I’d look around to see what it was and I didn’t see anything, not until I made a slight noise and then I saw the white tail and rack. Gone in a flash!!!! Arrrr

In my area when the young bucks start chasing the does it disrupts the does routine. I see this every year and for a few days I may not see one deer.

I do think the warm weather is not helping much. It was 75 here yesterday.

Wow, Newbie!

Can't fault your dedication! :P

I'd just as soon work as sit in a stand all day.

Four hours is about it for this 'ol boy. This morning I was in from 5:30 - 10:00 ... and that's a gracious plenty, for me.

Don't worry. Your day will come, with you putting that kind of effort into it! :D

Hah! thanks for all the support. LOL I actually have all the time in the world, seeing as I'm on strike right now (and have been for 4 months!) So hopefully I can fill my tag before the gun season closes this Saturday. I have never taken a deer in my life, but I'm also not expecting any miracles. I honestly wish I had a tutor, so to speak, to teach me the finer points of hunting these intelligent, beautiful and wary creatures.
