Is STS worth the money

Post by Island Hunter »

Does the STS work. Will it lower the noise any. I tried string silencers from Excalibur, but they flew off after about 4 or 5 shots. I may have had them in wrong, I put them on the seem. Then I tried rubber whiskers, but they came lose, so I took them off. Is it worth it to try a quiet it at all, or should I just leave it alone. Any and all feedback welcome, pros and cons. Thanks.

The sts may help in a dry fire. That is the main reason I have one. I also have a boo string with the wiskers served on and its been holding tight for over a year. With the Boo and sts my bow is so quiet that the thump of the arrow hitting the target seems louder than the bow! It obviously helps with vibrations in the bow, but as far as noise is concerned on deer.....They are more worried about the arrow that just went thru them :D

For a shooter that is new to crossbows I would say yes. They do reduce noise & vibration, plus add protection in case of a dry-fire.

I put a set on and they worked as advertised. But.......... ......... after hunting with a crossbow for over a decade now I have come to realize you will never make one silent. I don't even use the DBs that came on my Phoenix. I do use a Boo string with catwhiskers, and they have held up (still look like new and are on their 3rd year) well, but that is the extent of silencers I have on my bow. I removed (& sold) the STS simply because I didn't feel like I wanted the extra few of of weight on the bow. Not enough weight to worry about, but every ounce adds up and I'm a person that likes the looks of a bare bow. (uncluttered appearance and less to worry about)

The STS is the system with the rubber bumpers that stop the forward travel of the string at the brace height.

And where does one purchase this system?

Also, what is the weight of the STS?

Also, what does S. T. and S. stand for?
Keep smiling!

STS, Shock Terminator Suppressor. It is supposed to reduce vibration and noise when you shoot a CB. It consist of two brackets and two rubber stoppers, that mount behind the bow, to stop string slap and vibration. You can buy it at wyverncreations.com.

Can they be used with Ground Pounder Mounts?

if you buy it wqith the purpose of reducing vibration, and saving limbs in case of dry fire then its worth it.the xbow will always be noisy.but less with a sts.i wouldnt shoot a excalibur with out one due to possible dry fire.
