From Oct 1st till today and a new name for Pyd = DDFAL !
A quick summary ... the season started off well ... I was able to get some " red arrow " and " trophy " shots ...
CH on opening day ...
A nice sized doe for me ...
Finally a buck for me ..
A nice November harvest ..
Well the whitetail blood has dried up some for us since then !
Most of you know Pydpiper ... I can say for certain , he has been putting his time in ...
Hiking in early season but coming up dry ...
Late season shotgun hunt ... Annoyed , he heads out of the field after a crew off trespassers mess up his hunt
The biggest deer I saw in the field that week was this one ...
Now late season and we are seeing deer ... but they are not cooperating with the 20 yard shots ... of course it helps to range occationally so you don't get rusty , as I found out with this shot ... with only an over the back haircut to show for my efforts !
Although , Pydpiper has been a " rein of terror " on the Yotes using his " 204 " , finishing off yesterday afternoon with a " 4 total " yesterday including a running double ... the whitetails stay just out of range ..
Here is a dark phase yote one of the locals ( Tom B. ) got ...
Been lovin the time outdoors though ! ... Seeing lots of turkeys as we move from stand to stand ..
Awsome sunsets ...
Seen angry dogs ...
Buried in the snow further North ...
Got the young lad from next door out for a bit ... he is a great apprentice and a quick study .. I hope to post some pictures of his 1st harvest , when he connects with his Wolverine !
And still Pydpiper keeps trucking along ... he was surrounded this morning but no shot
We carved a few new shooting lanes at beauty intersection trails today , as we continue to " improvise , adapt , overcome "
And Pyd vows to soon change his name to " DDFAL "
( hint ... the middle 3 initials are " death from above " ! )
Stay tuned !

Don't let my lack of success fool you, this has been a great season in the bush! I have seen and experienced more stuff than I could possibly imagine! I would enjoy a deer in the freezer but it certainly isn't the only reason I am out there, I just love to hunt, no matter how it ends this will go down as my most successful season.
The jeep stuck in the snow was a turning point for me, I always thought I was the most dedicated guy in the woods. When the Jeep came to a stop I thought we were going to spend the next hour digging out, our gear was still rattleing around in the back when R.J. said without batting an eye, "Get your bow, lets go!" I knew right then someone had the bug worse than me.
In that picture you can see the snow drifted a foot over the corn, the corn is 7' high.

I never get tired of seeing pictures of arrows and deer on the ground! Nice shots R.J.
I hunt for memories, the meat's a bonus!

I know David has a great Hunters Spirit. The guy just loves to hunt. He and Jen started the season with 4 tags and almost 3 months later those 4 tags remain, not for long if I know David!
Here is a photo of Patti and Jen getting ready for a early October hunt.

You can always buy meat if you need it.
The glory of hunting comes from being in the woods with those you share the passion with.
The mornings, the nights, the comraderie, the coffe at Timmy's, the almost gots, the best wishes for tomorrow, the dreams of success. it's all part of the quest.
Congratulations on your season Dave.

Thanks all ....

Pyd has hauled his carcass over many many miles in the last few days ... we always seem to be two steps behind the deer ... have seen lots of other cool stuff though !
Flocks of turkeys .... Coyotes during drives .... a Wild roosted chicken .... maurading grouse .... You name it !
( I'll post some of those pictures after Christmas )
And I continue my " Barber " streak , with another close shave last night ! ... A deflected 17 yard shot produced a tuff of tail hair
Merry Christmas to all .... Enjoy some family time over the holidays !

Hey Pyd are you done for the season??? There's still plenty of time left if you can get out there.

Absolutly not Chris! With three little ones running around here I need to put some family time in for the next day or two. Kids looked at me this morning when they got up and said "what are you doing here?" I have been out almost every day (twice each day) so far this season, I have no intention of throwing in the towel just yet.chris4570 wrote:Hey Pyd are you done for the season??? They made me bring in my trail cam to catch Santa at the tree, I don't know why I never though of that when I was a kid..
