A double header

Post by Kinging »

Well folks..
All my patience has finaly paid off..
Been quite the year, been out so many times I lost count.
Barely seen any deer this year..
Finally got some snow and the deer started coming out in light hours..
I really do believe the Coyotes are pressuring the deer to turn nocturnal, here in Southern Ontario. (WMU 79)
Last year I would see a deer everytime I went out... this year not so much..
Anyhow back to my double header.. And yes in this area we can purchase more than one tag.
It was a nice cold morning on Saturday, right at daylight a nice sized doe came 25 yards infront of me..Using my Equinox I lined up and let her rip..the doe ran off..
Feeling quite confident I reloaded and waited patiently for her to lay down somewhere..
Approx. 25 mins later three more deer came out..all bucks..( two 4 pointers and 6)
I took aim at the 6 pointer ( 35 yards ) and let another arrow go..
He went down immediatley. The others ran off..
Than along come two coyotes..just out of range..lucky for them!!
Made quick work of the buck.. nice 6 pointer.. got him through shoulder and the arrow deflected into his spine.. Field dressed him with help from my pops and a good buddy D..

Checked the area and located the first arrow that had great sign of a good hit on the doe.

Spent next 3 hours tracking the doe; who was bleeding pretty good.. Coyotes were on her tail and she wouldn't stop running from them. We finally located her and scared off three yotes who were circling her. She wieghed approx. 180 lbs..bigger than the buck..

All is good, I am at peace with the deer gods again..
What a day!!

Pics to follow.. My camera died after taking a few of the buck but my buddy still has to email the pics of the doe to me..

Great to hear about your success especially considering your persistence and the lack of sightings in S Ontario this year. Even better when the snow is on the ground , you freeze a little and warm immediately when you finally see deer.
Merry Christmas and I'm sure yours will be a little better now

Cheers
