Scary sharp. Ordered the boning and 2 fillet knives. The little woman took the boning knife inside, and then she said it stays there. Been too cold to catch fish, but from the feel, they will work perfectly.

It was a great recommendation, thanks.
I also ordered one of the knives Grizz suggested.
I got the 5" skinner.What a knife.
I used it and a boning knife from my outdoor edge butchering kit to clean, skind and de bone two deer.
each knife required only slight touch up on the V-Sharp.
I was done in less than an hour.

Just ordered a few more knives. I'd stopped by A.G. Russells near Springdale, Ar. years ago and among other things got a Chicago cutlery paring, cheese and small cutting board set. Real junk, I hate Chicago cutlery, won't hold an edge.

That coupled w/ the fact I can't keep the little woman from cutting on plates ect. prompted me to order my own yesterday. I got a 3 piece set of Victorinox real reasonable.

I use a Cold Steel Carbon V Master Hunter. There not sold anymore and apparently sought after.

Holds and edge, easy to sharpen but must be treated with rust inhibitor due to the fact that it contains no stainless.

What Bob said is right.

Knives are highly personal items, and there is often a whole lot more sentiment attached to personal preferences in knives than cold hard facts about quality and performance.

I have a folding knife that I commonly carry in the woods that is of far less quality than some others I own. It is a Buck knockoff made in Pakistan, I suspect. It isn't anything special, and it's unduly heavy for it's size. I have better ones in it's category ... but I carry it because a friend gave it to me, and it has special associations.

Lots of us are that way, and there's nothing wrong with that. :D

I decided to try a different knife this year. I've use my Puma "Rattler" successfully for quite a few years, but had the bright idea a slightly bigger/heavier blade would also allow me to split the sternum without carrying a folding saw.

On deer #1 this year I used my Marbles "Plainsman". When working up in the chest cavity I managed to come so close I actually cut the tip off one of my rubber glove fingers (and somehow managed to do it without cutting my own finger).

That prompted me to quickly switch knives in my hunting pack as soon as I got home!
Back to the old Puma "Rattler"!
It means I have to either carry a folding saw or do a little extra reaching to get up in the chest cavity, but it beats a cut while field dressing a deer.

Good point Bob. I have a couple that mean a lot to me now.

wabi . . .got to go slow when trying out a new knife! Sounds like you had a close call. I'm glad you still got that finger. :)

You must be a trapper, too, Dutch.
Does the plastic tail stripper do a good job?

I really like Kershaw knives off the snap-on truck have about 4 different styles and they ar excellent knives with a good warranty and tool trucks stop at all your local autoshops! plus i own a buck, a remington and a gerber w/ gut hooks one in the truck one in each of the gearbags - for pop up blind, for tree stand, and in ground blind bag! keep a knife in the truck, one on the quad and one on my person at all times! get tired of them i give them to my nephews/nieces as they get old enuff to hunt and i get a new one! drives wife nuts but hey u only go round once!
