Outhouse Blind??

Post by RichJ »

Has anyone tried using the Ameristep Outhouse with a Excalibur? I was really looking for a "smaller" pop up blind. My brother bought a new blind and sent me his Outhouse Blind. He "claims" you can use the stakes to make the blind wider. Ameristep also uses it can be used for crossbow hunting in their ads.I know the Dog House has A LOT more room.

I've been inside one and IMO the Outhouse is too small for crossbows; fine for a gun. I might be possible for a hunter and his/her crossbow to physically fit inside an Outhouse and shoot from one, as long as your animal is standing perfectly straight out in front of the blind. And as we all know, deer always show up and stop nicely broadside exactly where we want them to

For a crossbow, get a the Doghouse.

If you prefer hub blinds, the Ameristep G30 has plenty room to shoot a CB out of.

We have an Outhouse too. I've used it for xbow, but as MadMax said, there is no spare room to move the bow. Best if you set up with the bow limbs right out of the window. It's pretty tight for vertical bows too, IMHO. Best for rifle and shotgun. Personally I don't think it's worth the very small difference in weight or carrying size between the Doghouse and the Outhouse.

If you're going for small/light, maybe carry some camo fabric to wrap around some trees and brush in a cover over top?

I've have 2 Outhouse blinds and a Doghouse. You can make an Outhouse work for a CB, but its a bit of a squeeze. Its a better gun blind...IMHO. Hard to be very quiet in it when you're trying to get in position to shoot. I've been burned a few times trying to get set. Its like VixChix said....the little extra in weight and carry size is worth the room you have in the Doghouse blind!

The doghouse doesn`t weight any amount more when it is on your back .
Even the Doghouse has its limitations if you have two people in it for bow . For gun it is not a problem and is enjoyable to share the hunt with someone . :)

I have a Doghouse and it works OK but my partner has a hub blind that has a lot more room. He had a Outhouse, but gave it away. didn't like it!! Too Small..
