I swear, its just one of those years. I took a good friend today for a crack at a longbeard. And as luck would behold we had one strutting at 15 yards for a good 2-3minute show! This is his first longbeard in 25 years of hunting and the look on his face after the shot was priceless. This bird wasnt a heavyweight at 19lbs, but he had a 10inch beard and 1.125 spurs. Good 3-4 year old, but his beard was thin. Size doesnt matter on this hunt. This will be a memory that will last a lifetime. Im blowing up the photos for some 8x10's for him and myself to keep on our walls.
I swear I have to start my own outfitting service and chage for this.... kidding LOL

Keep it up and I'm going to drive to VA.
I didn't even buy a tag yet, spending most of my mornings plumbing right now. Never fails, but being self employed means you always have to catch up financially when the work's available, and it seems like there's a slow period every spring until turkey season opens - then the calls come in.
Crazy, you just have too much fun!! Congratulations......again.

I'm actually looking forward to this saturday. It's Junior Only Hunting Day for Spring Turkey before the regular season opens here in PA. I'll be calling for my son (he's 12), so I'm really hoping I can get one to come in this year... using a few decoys from Carry-Lite (gobbler / hen setup)... I'd love to see him shoot his first. He was with me 2 years as just an observer when I shot my first Eastern... it was hilarious...
I saw 2 walking up the hill behind some brush, could only see feet... I was camoflauged by a natural brush cover, so I pulled up at the end of that cover waiting for them to come into view. My son saw me pull up and put his fingers in his ears. I put my finger to my mouth to indicate to be quiet, and he remained calm. As soon as the first bird came into view (not strutting), I saw the beard and blasted him at around 10 yards. Down he went. He started flopping around and my son jumps up and yells "Dad! He's still moving! Shoot em again!"... I laughed... told him to be patient and shorly there after the bird stopped moving. For my first Tom, it was around 24lbs, 12" thick beard, and 1 1/4" spurs...
