Still laughing

Post by Cossack »

As the only retired senior in a rural neighborhood with young people, kids and 2 husbands that are away most of the week overnight, I've been called on to unstick vehicles, remove snow, remove a bat, corral a grass snake and give advice on how to make scrambles eggs. Yesterday was another first. I was interrupted while preparing dinner with an urgent call: Fish hook through the lip, what to do? As a former medic, I offered to help; come on over (across the road) where I have equipment.
Here they came, two kids, a collie and the distraught mom pulling a wagon. The patient wasn't one of the kids, it was a KITTEN. Seems a ice fishing pole had become a plaything (can't be sure if for the cat or the boy ) causing the hook to be impaled through it's lower lip. Fortunately, it went through the lip and both ends were sticking out. Using my multipurpose sidecutter, the 'surgery' was a complete success and the assemblage was soon on it's way back home, while consoling the patient.

A good deed for sure!
Usually when I try something like that I end up with a lot of puncture wounds from teeth & claws.

Hey Cossack,
It sounds like you are their hero. Give yourself a pat on the back and another pat on the back from me. So many people do not have time for each other in this day and age.
Thanks,
Raymond

Great little story!
Glad to hear all was well in the end! :)

No doubt. Quills can be pretty nasty, esp if the dog was aggressive and bit repeatedly. Kittens this young are hardly a problem, big cats, esp those not de clawed, are another story. With any luck they fit into a section of stove pipe with the tail end end blocked off. My words of wisdom for the day, just in case Killer does it again.....
