Red Dot Sights
This fall I will be using my Exocet for crossbow deer hunting in Alabama. I've been using and loving my Lumizone scope since they hit the scene but no magnification is allowed on crossbows in Alabama.
What brand of red dot is the best?
Which is the best for the money?
Before any responses, I am leaning towards an Excal Truglo.
Thanks much.

Re: Red Dot Sights
Alabama crossbow laws changed in March of 2010, it is now legal to use scopes on crossbows with magnification in the state of Alabama, great news for Alabama xbow hunters.
Take time to enjoy each & everyday that GOD has given us- be thankful.

Bigbuck,
It's not that I doubt you, but where did you get that information? There is nothing on the ALDCNR website indicating a law change.
I would like to confirm it, thats all.
Thanks for the great news.

"2009-2010 Alabama Game Regulation PDF
220-2-.03 Legal Specifications for Bow and Arrow
Section two copied here verbatim *note italicized section below*
2) Sighting and aiming devices on all bows shall be void of any electronics
with computational capabilities. The use of electrically assisted aiming
devices shall be limited to illuminated sight pins/beads/markings which
are attached to the bow.*Sights with magnification or light projection
(laser type) features are prohibited."
I can't advise you about what brand of red dot to buy because I've never liked them. But my advice would be to go down to a sporting goods store & look through some for yourself......maybe ask to shoot a crossbow that has one on it? I know some smaller independent bow shops will oblige if they can.
Edit: I tried to get the text I copied from the PDF to align correctly but I'm just not willing to sit here & adjust it further so it is how it is
Edit #2: I'd also check with them &/or a game warden about the March 2010 law change mentioned above & find out if it did & if so; when does it take affect

Just called Montgomery Gary Moodys office chief of Alabama wildlife section, it is now legal in Alabama to use crossbows for hunting with scopes that have magnification, if anyone does not believe this they can call 334-242-3469.

Re: Red Dot Sights
Always double check for yourself with the people who will be issuing the tickets - that said; it's a win for you folks in Alabama if it's true, congratulations! I can't find anything official (state of Alabama posted) on their site & I have no inclination to call but there are a few forums with recent posts that are supporting what bigbuck has said.
We had the "no magnification" rule here but it changed in the late 80's iirc Now if they'll allow poison & hand thrown spears we'll have one of the most liberal archery seasons again lol

There is no if its true, it is as I said true, dont know know why you have to keep talking about it, its nothing to you anyway, & thats all I have to say about the matter, I have better things to do with my time.

Re: Red Dot Sights
Because it's an open forum & I felt like saying congrats to those in Alabama who want to use magnified scopes. "If it's true" means exactly what I said - I personally haven't confirmed it; I don't believe anything I read until I confirm it for myself & since (as I said) I won't bother to confirm it's still "IF" to me.bigbuckonly1 wrote:There is no if its true, it is as I said true, dont know know why you have to keep talking about it, its nothing to you anyway, & thats all I have to say about the matter, I have better things to do with my time.
It's nothing to get your panties in a wad about since I never accused you of lying. It's just conversation. If that bothers you, so be it.
