Welcome aboard!

Best of luck CB hunting NJ this season.

My brother who lives on 70-80 acres in Flemington, NJ will be doing they same. I've got one PA CB season under my belt but they're currently not allowed in my home State of Connecticut - least not in the two zones that I typically hunt.

Ahhh NJ, I used to go to Toms River every summer to visit my cousins. Seaside Beach and all. But that was another time.

I bought a new Vortex last year and love it. I would recommend you buy a target specifically designed for crossbows. Reason being is that I bought one not specifically designed for crossbows and the 200Lbs of draw on this Vortex would bury the 20" bolts at 20yds. When that happens, it wrinkled my fletchings and changed the flight of the bolts. Not to mention I pulled out the threaded nock inserts with a T-handle trying to get them out of the target. Some, I actually had to use a piece of wood and a mallet on the other side of the target to get them out. Well, thats a ruined fletching. I had a time sighting the thing in.

Sighting in the scope if you bought a Varizone with it....follow the instructions to a T. Don't shortcut and think that if you are hitting bulls at 20 yds you will be on at the other ranges in the reticle. I made that mistake. Go through all the steps in the scope sighting instrs.

I tried Muzzy b-heads with no success in getting a good group after the target issues. There are tons of posts on here regarding b-head selection. I have not tried them all for obvious reasons but I settled back on the Excal boltcutters b/c I got a group with them. When I say a group, I mean the second shot is also in a 2" circle. I dont shoot a 2nd or 3rd bolt at the same bull b/c I have ruined bolts doing that...cut fletchings, etc.

Hope this helps.
