CB brackets for an ATV?!?!

Post by lvt01 »

I bought a new (used) Polaris Sportsman X2 and was wondering if anybody had any ideas for brackets to hold the CB to the rack for safe transport to the tree stand? My old 4 wheeler had tube racks and making a couple brakets to hold the bow wasn't bad, but this flat rack that I have on the Sportsman is going to be a different animal. Anybody got any ideas or some you've bought or made for yours? Tx!

Is there a way to put gun grips on it? Can you get a picture of the type of rack you have?

Looks like this. I thought I'd make some kind of brackets for the front rack, because the back rack is basically a little dump box and wouldn't work as well.

Nice machine. The gun grips i have are fastened to the tube with a clamp, but the actual gun grip is attached to the clamp with one bolt. You could do away with the clamp portion of it and use a screw to hold the grip to your rack.

Thanks. Its sure a step up from the 11 year old Kawasaki I had. My back couldn't take the bouncing anymore.

I was thinking of something like that. Would a gun bracket hold the CB tight enough so it doesn't bounce around?

I have one like the koplin rhino grip ont this page http://www.cabelas.com/catalog/search.c ... v+gun+rack It works well. The strap that hold it in is adjustble, the down side is that eventually the straps will break. That said, I have had mine for 3 or 4 years now with the original straps.

Yes...I was looking at those. Wonder if a person would need to buy 2 sets though? One set to hold the limbs and 1 from a 2nd set to hold the stock end. Suppose a person could flip a bungee cord around the stock to hold it too. I saw another kind called the Mad Dog bow grip pro. They're for a compound bow, but I think that they would work on a crossbow. I need to get something rigged up fairly quick, cuz trying to ride with the CB slung over my shoulder isn't going to cut it! Thanks for your input!

I tried my xbow on my Polaris Sportsman 400 with the gun racks that are currently on it from rifle season and it seemed to fit perfectly, but I don't use the quad for bowhunting as I can walk to my stand. I don't know the name of the racks that are on it now, but they are the rubber "Y" shaped grips with smaller rubber "fins" inside to grip the forend and stock of the rifle. Each "Y" is independent of the other and mounts individually. I have 4 of these on the front rack to carry two rifles.

I only have two, one for the stock and one for the rail.

I have been carrying both vertical and crossbows for several years now and in my opinion (from experience) , you are better off getting a good shoulder strap and carrying your bow on your shoulder..The vibrations from the 4 wheeler can do horrible things to scopes, sights and quiver bracket screws. There is nothing worse than getting to a stand and finding that you scope lens or sight bracket has vibrated loose. Not an easy fix on the stand....

I have an idea for putting it on the front rack of your bike.
use three blocks for putting a canoe on a car one on each limb and one on the stock and a couple of bungee cords.

Would not be sexy but it would work :D

If it were me I would come off the trailer hitch tube, come out past the bike then straight up. The bow could hang straight up and down, that would let the vibrations and bumps ride with the way the scope was designed.
It would also be fairly simple to add an anti vibration shock to the unit, as mentioned above that could get real rough on a scope laying flat.

Is there a risk to the scope when mounting a CB or rifle to the front rack of an ATV?

One of my hunting buddies is adamant with never putting a scoped weapon on an atv.

I can understand the reasoning behind that theory, but for the years that I have been doing it with my excal I have never had a problem. But my atv trips are relatively short, and perhaps a rifle scope would be more sensitive to the bumps?

Not an expert by any means but I can't imagine the jostling of a 4 wheeler would be any more harsh than the shock of shooting a crossbow or a rifle??
