Sorry Guys, But Another Vixen Logging In....

Sorry guys, But another Vixen logging in....

One deer (30 yds.) was taken on the last hunt of the last day of the American Crossbow Federation October deer & turkey hunt in Missouri with Ozark Mountain Outfitters. The Vixen also sent a turkey (35 yds.) home with me.

Vixen (brown stock) + Danny Miller GT Laser II arrows w/ brass inserts + 100 gr. Rage + Firenock. (Those Firenocks sure do make finding arrows in the dark easy - Thank You, Dorge).

Congrats on your success!

I'm taking the Vixen out next week. I got to make a story of my own. :)

How far did the deer run after the hit?

Laura,

This was my second year on this ACF hunt. In my opinion, this hunt (with Ozark Mountain Outfitters) is one of the best values that I have run across in a long time.

My first year (2009), it was a three day hunt (HBH, Winter 2010 issue, p.20) and I got three shots in three days. The five of us saw over 150 deer in these three days. Given that some of us may have been seeing the same deer - that is still a lot of deer to be seeing in three days.

At only $300 per day ($1,500 total for 5 days of hunting), there are few full-inclusion vacations out there that are this affordable -- not to mention all the fun. Out-of-state licenses are $225 (2 deer and 1 turkey). If you fill these tags, additional doe tags are only $25 each. Unlike some outfitters, if you are lucky and get a real wall-hanger, there are NO additional and hidden trophy charges.

Jim, Darlene and Eric Wilson do an outstanding job and they go out of their way to structure each clients hunts based on their physical abilities and their personal interests. They also track and clean you game for you. Jim should have his walk-in cooler in operation by next year so that will be no rush to do the butchering. If you need help with butchering, Eric will lend you a hand.

With over 2,000 acres, 50 food plots and dense hardwoods; you can hunt for several years without hunting the same stand. If your preference is bush or ground blinds, elevated box stands or ladder stands, every hunt can be from the same type of stand or you can mix and match.

I am sure that Dan will have a write-up in the next edition of Horizontal Bowhunter magazine and the details for next October’s hunt. There are only six slots available, so if you are interested, I suggest that you send your $500 deposit in as soon as you can. Non-hunting spouses are welcome. PM me if you wish more details.

I've talked to Daniel a little bit about it before but I appreciate the extra information. It is something I've been thinking about. Thanks! (I should probably go to the casino and get the money.)

Meat Hunter, do you have to have a disabled permit to use a crossbow on the Ozark hunt?
