Severd a couple strands...
Hey folks,
I accidentally knicked my string with my broadhead trying to put it back in the quiver. It looks like only 1 or 2 strands got severed.
Do you think it's worth replacing? Is it still safe to use?
Any help would be great
Thanks!

Re: Severd a couple strands...
Actually, upon further look I only knicked one string. Think I should still replace it?

I would. If it causes a dry fire then your out the time it might take to get new limbs. A new string is cheap compared to that.

I would even go one further and unstring the bow till I got a new string. Why take a chance but then again I don't build strings and do not know how they are made.
Re: Severd a couple strands...
I have a policy of replacing any string showing any visible damage or even one that has been abused (such as a dry fire) even though it appears to be good.
Why risk damaging your bow or yourself to save a few $$$?
A new string is cheap insurance!

Based on what you did, then it could be a good option to just keep shooting it. If the string was damaged via abuse or wear, then I'd suggest the same thing everyone else is suggesting, replace it.
I used a string that had one strand cut and even reserved it with the cut strand under the serving. It did fine and it was on the Exomax.
I'm guessing it's a 28 strand string that came with your bow. I've shot a 24 strand string and other than the vibrations, it was a good string. Your string should be just as strong as that 24 strand string even after the lost strand.
If the broken strand showed up without just cause, then replace it. Otheriwse, I'd continue shooting it.

I'd rather wear out than rust out.

I am new to crossbows due to a RECENT handicap but have Bow hunted for 40 years and shot competively for 20 of those years. When a bowstring is made it is a single wrap for a given number of loops. Then served at the endS and center served. A single stand sevevered and you have comromised the integrity of the whole string. Without a question replace it. If it was serving, reserve it and go shoot.
