unstringing the excalibur (Don't Forget!)

Post by RussJohnson »

I have strung and unstrung my bow many times. I was taking the bow down for winter storage today and forgot to put a nice padded leather glove on. This is something I have done since day one. I did not allow a dry fire, but the pads on the face of my left hand are sore as heck!!! I wear 2 gloves when I pull the stinging aid up to the trigger catch. Then I use my stronger gloved right hand to slow the cord when I pull the trigger after the bow string is in place or when it has been removed, depending on which operation you are performing. Just a little pointer. I always store my bow unstrung with the dissapator pads removed. Comes from childhood archery training at the YMCA! :(

They are nothing to fool around with. I got bit once shooting bow with bow string aide still hooked on one side. Lots of blood and a very sore little finger. To string and unstring mine I use a rope cocker.

I always use the cocking aid on the stringing aid after experiencing sore hands from using the stringing aid alone. I do the same thing to let it down after the string is off.

I leave mine on but when I do change strings I use the rope cocker to release it.
