By 8:30 am I had my opening bird down.. 20 lbs--- 10 1/4" beard ---- 1 1/4" spurs

I took the bird at 35 yards with a 20 gauge

with the wet week ahead we stuck it out in the blind but birds didnt want to co operate the whole way in... it wasnt until the following Monday that the birds stuck to the script. The morning found myself and Amber in the double bull set up between two bush lots. Birds gobbled hard from all directions that morning, but went silent once they hit the ground. It wasnt untill 7:15 am when 3 toms and a bunch of jakes and hens came through the field.. only to have the toms hang up out of range. As those birds drifted off we had two silent jakes sneak past us within 5 yards of the blind, once the birds were circling the decoy I gave Amber the green light on the birds... long story short those two birds have now been educated to the fullest !!!... lol.. it happens to us all but we never want to admit it.. clean miss.. Back home we go to regroup and re plan the afternoon hunt.. 2 pm found us on the same property as my opening day bird.. at 3:30 we saw our first two toms coming into the field, followed by 4 other toms.. all at this point coming right into the spread at a full out run.
this bird was the winner of that race and ended up on paper at 22 lbs----9" beard----3/4" spurs.. Amazing way to change a day...
Let the season begin
