I'm sure you'll get a better look at him when you're kneeling beside for a pic or two Terry. :)

I've had a couple strange ones show up this year.

This one has been coming in since I put the camera out. Hard to see in the pic, but he has a "stub" on the left that is going down over the side of his head.

And this one just showed up recently, but I think he's the same one that was there last year.
Last year it was a fork on the right and 3 prongs on the left.
This year he has an extra tine on the right but the same 3 prongs on the left.

That's what I was thinking. I've heard the same thing.
Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me some venison; And make me savoury meat, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat; that my soul may bless thee before I die. Gen 27:3-4

I've got some old trail cam pictures that answer the question. I'll see if I can dig them out.

Can't find the pictures. I think that out of 3 deer with messed up racks, 2 of them had an injury to the opposite rear leg from the bad antler. Injuries appeared to have been from jumping over barbed wire fence and getting caught. Think I'm recalling correctly.

I wonder what that buck is all postured up about. Looks like his hackles are raised but his ears aren't lowered as if it were another buck. Maybe Wyle E. Coyote is hiding in the bushes? LOL

It can be due to a tramatic injury such as being hit by a car...running hard from something when in velvet and crashing hard into a tree. If they mess up the base as its growing during velvet it could change the growth pattern for the rest of its life....

I've gotten pictures of deer like that when they were facing a coon down.

Here's a couple of a 3 legged deer I got a few years ago on the camera.
