best serving material and size

Post by thumper »

I'm gonna learn to serve my strings, I hope ! Was wondering what kind and what size serving to get to serve my Vortex strings with.

Whatever Boo used on my last string.
Hopefully he will read this and tell us.

Sorry I didn't question him as to what he used, but I trust his judgement to use the best, and this serving is wearing like iron so far.

I use 0.030" Halo but you might find 0.026" Angel Majesty better. Angel Majesty does not lay flat so it digs into the string. Halo loves to lay flat and because it is so slick it separates easily. The only drawback behind using Angel Majesty is that dyes do not stick very well so it bleeds a bit onto the deck. No big deal as it wipes off.

Thanks a bunch ! Would the slick Halo have a tendancy to jump under my arrows, I shoot carbon express maxima hunters with the plastic nocks. I polished the claws down tonight, on my third string in about 4-5 weeks. I'm real careful not to overcock my bow also, and use the rope cocker. Built me a jig for serving today and just need to figure out which serving to get to start the learning process !

I use the same arrows and no they do not. If you have rounded nocks like some that are illuminated then it will until it is roughed or squared up.
Go with the Angel Majesty. You can even get it in 0.036".

i started reserving last summer . Boo has a great video on the matter and he helped me out with any questions i had (Thanks Boo)..I found the angel majesty to be very easy to work with and holds up well..the Halo is a bit more of a challange but i like it too..Like Boo said it will seperate if not wound right but once you learn to serve then longivity realy isnt and issue cuz you can reserve a string in 10 -15 mins..
