So, I have three flat butt luminoks in my carbon crossbow bolts. To date they have worked every time I have shot my bag target.
However, when I shot that deer on Saturday (complete pass through) the light went off when it went thorugh the deer. Fortunately it was a close shot in the broad dayligt so I had no problem finding the arrow. On my vertical bow I have shot two deer with lighted nocks and neither one of them shut after the deer. They were a different brand (NockTurnal) though, and they are ativiated by an entirel different means than the BC Luminoks.
The NockTurnals have an actual switch that is depressed by the bow string. Once it's activated, you have to stick a knife, or a broadhead blade into the nock from the side and with a fair degree of precision, you force that switch back and off goes the light.
There is nothing like this on the market (that I know of) for flat butt crossbow nocks. So, I went with the Luminoks. They are activated when the bow string forces the entire nock farther / tighter into the arrow. When this happens, two little contacts hit the carbon and that completes the circuit... light comes on. Downside of this system (apparently) is that on a pass through shot, the resistance of the deer on that entire nock as is passes through, can unseat the nock just enough to kill the light.
How often does this happen? I don't have a rat's butt about having the lights come on during target practice. If they'e going to shut off after passing through a deer, what's the point?
Thanks,
PH80

Re: Luminok question: Failure rate????
Iam using Lum-noks (flat) and had a pass thru after breaking exit rib and light stayed on. Maybe yours are not tight enough? I take a grocery plastic bag and cut a shim then push nock in ( making sure shim is 90 degrees from contacts) The instuctions say to use a paper shim but I haven't found any paper thin enough?

http://shop.firenock.com/Firenock-F-F3- ... FNLN10.htm These are what I use. They are a little more expensive. But if you change shaft sizes you just change the supplied o rings out. You also get weight matched practice nocks to use and the batteries are replaceable. A big plus for me is you don't have to use a tool to turn them off.

Firenocks are activated by the acceleration of the shot. You turn them off by dropping the arrows nock down about 6-8" onto a hard surface.
An advantage of the Firenocks system is that the batteries are replaceable without having to purchase a whole new nock, bulb, and circuit board.
