As it should be!! Good on ya Maple. :)

I do the same at my uncle's where I hunt. Cut up and haul deadfalls out of the fields, pick rocks out of the fields, clean up the ditches and put his plow on the 4 wheeler for him once the snow gets close. Little things just to let him know I appreciate the privledge of hunting his land. :)

I do the same thing on my little lease. Take my tractor with rake out there at least once a year and clean up and mow the road in and the camping spot on the river. Cut up limbs that are in the road for firewood to use at the camping spot. Think it helps a lot.

Being a land manager for timber company land for a long time, I have seen it all. Seems like when people pay for the right of hunting on a tract of land and have it for themselves, they will take care of it a lot better than just giving permission to several people to go out there. I think you have to be selective also. I've tried giving permission to help out friends and it seems to just never work out for one reason or another. Some people I work for will tell me I can go out and kill a turkey or deer on their property, but do not take anyone else as they have had bad experiences in the past will people taking guests and next thing you know the guest came back with 3 buddies.

I had a good piece of hunting land that I paid for with my sweat and believe me now that it is gone I REALLY am happy to get to hunt anywhere. Its a gift to hunt someone's land. Respect it. :D

My wife's 95 year old grandfather has a girlfriend. His daughters don't much care for it, but the way my wife and I look at it, he's 95! Let the old man do what he wants!

It's amazing how little respect some people have, and that's just in general. You've got to wonder how some of these people were raised. I show respect to anyone and everyone until they give me a reason not to. It's the landowner's property and you're a guest. Treat it as such.

My step dad, several years before I started hunting on his property, let a guy hunt on the 100 acres behind his house. This guy was a friend of his. The only stipulation was that he didn't want any bucks shot, only does. The guy went up there one morning and had a DANDY buck come down by him, and he shot it. That was the last time the guy got to hunt there. The two of them were still friends, but my step dad wouldn't let him hunt any more.

When I first started hunting up there, I didn't know anything about what had happened between him and his friend. I asked him if I could bowhunt up there and get me a doe. He didn't have much faith in bows, but told me that I could go up on the hill and shoot a doe if I wanted. The first evening I hunted, I had a little buck (3-4 pt) come down past the stand. I had ample opportunities to shoot the deer, but didn't because Bob had told me to go shoot a doe if I wanted one. Since he didn't say anything about the bucks, I let the little guy pass.

The one day I went to the property that I have permission on there were some duck hunters in the field hunting. So I went and they said they just got permission from the farmer. But I saw they had tree stands with them which I found odd because the land owner only lets me deer hunt there. So I talked to the owner and he told me he let them on for duck hunting only. They were kicked off the property

Where I am allowed on to hunt I always send every owner something between Christmas and New Year even if I don't hunt it that year. It does get expensive but that is the least I can do for them for letting me hunt. It is tough getting on anywhere here and I won't do anything to give them an excuse to ask me to leave. I do on to others as I would like them to do on to me. Why does it seem like the idiots are always the ones getting the permission and ruining it for everyone else.

bob, you are the ideal hunter, i would do exactly what you did. gaining access to private property is very difficult these days, let alone the owner to trust you to help out as you do. hats off to you dude, good hunting to you....

Yep - He is a strong as a horse and going strong. He has approx 300 sheep on the property and looks after them himself. Im heading up tomorrow to help him build a new coral for the sheep.
