NO they cant go past branches you need to find a tree with out branches to the height you wish to climb. If they're small branches you could cut them as you go up.But be sure too ALWAYS use a safety belt.

Climbing stands, you have to first pick a tree without many large branches. Any smaller ones you can cut off as you go up. With a fixed position or hang on type of stand, you can use them in trees with limbs.

I would not suggest rope climbing my freind even if you are very good and do it for a living. Too many issues associated with safety and trying to be quiet, whether in day time or darkenss. I just look for a suitable tree in a good location with no limbs if I'm going to use a climber. If you can't find one, go out ahead of time and take a hand saw to cut off enough limbs to climb up. If all the trees are just way too limby, then get a lock on with steps or ladder stand.

you would be surprised at how many good trees that don't have branches until 20+ feet up there really are... i purchased a used climber last year and i gotta tell you, I LOVE IT... they are a little more to carry in and out, and little work to get them on and climb up and down but i tell ya, the freedom is unbelievable... i absolutely love it.. i have a hang on stand i am going to get rid of and go with my climber and am looking to get a 18ft 2 man ladder stand for me and my son , want to have him come with me a few times a year, that or my brother or whatever... anyways, if you get a climber, you won't be sorry.. they are great.. .one tip, take a walk around your area when there is snow on the ground, look for steady heavily used trails or find a good spot about 150 or so yards from a bedding area, walk around a find a good sized tree that would make for a good climber stand tree, then get some of those reflective thumb tacks or simple tie or tape some white reflective, orange reflective, etc.. tape around the base of the tree, or on some saplings around the base of the tree , something that will help you identify that/those tree(s) in the dark.. just a helpful hint..the least amount of time you spend fumbling around in the dark and making noise etc will only benefit your hunts..

About 6 years ago I bought a climber and thought I'd be hauling it all over the place and climbing trees like a monkey. Didn't happen. There was one really good looking spot and I left it up there all season and installed tree steps to the stand instead.

Climbers are great stands, but you gotta get use to them.get "practice" climbs in.up and down.it's a lot different at dark,or excitement after shot, being cold, etc,. When I look for a spot to hunt ,I always look for "telephone poles"... Trees with strait trunks along trails.I use climber as a backup, and it's always available in my truck.. What are you hunting in England?

NO MATTER WHAT, USE A FALL ARREST SYSTEM!!! That's the most important part. I scout out my spots all summer, trim trees and shooting lanes way before season starts. I make & mark path's so I can slip in AND out as quiet as possible. I use a Summit Climber and a Hunter's safety system. I would never think about leaving the ground without some type of F.A.S. Practice makes perfect. Get use to the weight of your stand, take it scouting in the off season. Practice setting it up as quickly AND quietly as you can. Know exactly how everything works before your 20' up in a tree. Choose a straight, rough barked tree, smooth tree's suck! Choose a tree that isn't dead and is big enough around to support you & your gear in a wind storm. Check for Racoon and squirrel nests, check for loose or dead branches above where you will climb to to avoid getting knocked on the noggin. I use a small screw in hook to hang my pack on, and a swing out hook to hang my xbow on. You don't want to juggle 30 feet off the ground in the dark while blowing around in the breeze. Get a thermacell, you'll thank me later... A good rope to raise, and lower your bow and other stuff up and down is important too. Please be carefull! The first time I ever used a climber I strapped my feet to the bottom platform and right as I started to raise the upper frame to start climbing I fell backwards and was stuck for about ten minutes. Thank GOD I was 2 1/2 feet off the ground, not 20 feet. No F.A.S., No clue what I was doing. Summit has great user video on the website. Good info no matter what brand you use. Good luck to you!
The fear and dread of you will fall upon all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air, upon every creature that moves along the ground, and upon all the fish of the sea, they are given into your hands. Gen 9:2
