What Bipod for an Excalibur Axiom with CLAW Sling?

Post by Gigahertz21 »

I posted a thread last week about which sling I should buy for my Axiom and several of you suggested the CLAW crossbow sling so I bought it and love it so far, it attached to my Axiom very easily and works great. Next thing to buy now is a bipod so I thought I would get your suggestions again since you guys have been very helpful so far :D So what bipod would you guys suggest? I'd like to spend less then $100 for one.

Also, anybody have suggestions for a crossbow case besides the one that Excalibur makes? I bought this Allen one (http://www.amazon.com/Allen-6010-Compan ... 976&sr=8-1) but it wasn't long enough for the limbs, I guess it was made for compounds only.

Here is that sling thread link in case anybody wants to visit it:

P.S Check out the second hand shops, that's where I got mine.
Do you pull out the bipod only when you want to shoot your crossbow or is it permanently attached to it? I want something that permanently attaches to mine like a rifle bipod, I'm not technical enough to build my own.

Thanks for the link, looks like it has decent reviews. I've never installed a bipod before so if I bought the one from the Amazon link you posted, where would it install to on my Axiom? It says on the Amazon page, "Attaches easily to a sling swivel stud" but I already have my CLAW sling attached to those studs on the bottom of my Axiom. So where would the bipod attach to? Would I have to attach it to the quiver bracket screw holes which would mean I couldn't use the quiver bracket at all then?

(EDIT) That bipod you linked to looks like it doesn't pivot? Should I get one that does? Also, it only goes up to 9 inches, I'm not sure if that will be enough. I want to be able to shoot my crossbow using the bipod in the prone position as well as sitting down. I noticed some of these bipods come with a "picatinny mount" what is that exactly and would I have to use it?

What about this one?

Thanks for the help so far, as you can tell I'm a newbie to all of this. :D

Hello Folks,
Excalibur Crossbows Inc. is going to be producing their own Mono-Pod and Bi-Pod sometime. They are in the process now.

Well that sounds cool, only thing is I noticed Excalibur tends to be pricey for accessories.

Any of the "Harris" style bi-pods will work by attaching to the front sling swivel. Harris brand are pretty pricey, but there are lots of clones and fixed and swivel and diff. lengths to choose from. I keep a short one on my bow when I'm testing arrows or sighting in before season. Its just easier than a front bag. It also works well with a junior as they have one less thing to worry about or mess with.Just use the rear bag for elev. adj. and go. Some of these will have a provision to attach a sling to them so that you dont loose that feature as well.

Well, I searched everywhere and apparently there is no such thing as a bipod that you can shoot from in both the prone and sitting position comfortably. I looked on all the sites (amazon, cabelas, walmart, basspro, dicks sporting goods, sportsmen warehouse) and there is no bipod I found that can go from 6 or 9 inches to 24 inches or more. Everything is either 6" to 9", 9" to 13", 11" to 25", 13" to 27". It blows my mind that they don't have a product out there that can do both positions  , the Harris 11" to 25" bipod is the closest but 11" is still a little too much for a comfortable prone position shot and it's way over priced.

I guess it's just like what this guy wrote on Amazon for the Caldwell XLA pivot bipod that goes from 13" to 27":
http://www.amazon.com/Caldwell-Pivot-Mo ... roduct_top
Length- Fully collapsed the bipod is a bit too tall to shoot comfortably from the prone position. I knew this beforehand, but wish there was a 3 joint system to allow a 9"-27" range. Since no one makes a bipod with this range, I'm assuming that logistically it just doesn't work. It's more of a "In a perfect world" comment, not a complaint on the product.
I guess I will just go with that Caldwell XLA bipod I linked to above. It has good reviews on all the sites but I won't be able to shoot my crossbow from the prone position with it, but I think most of the time I'd want to be sitting anyways to take shots.
