season regs.changes for the good

Post by lungbuster »

Looks like here in Maryland we are looking at an opener of Sept 7th instead of the 15th, better chance for a nice one in velvet. A 3 buck limit instead of 9 at last a chance to let them grow. And unlimited harvest of does, great to fill the freezer and get the buck to doe numbers were they should be. Could be good things to come.

Yeah WOW, unlimited does!! Holy crossbow fun Batman, I need to come down there for hunting!! Here in PA with our general license purchase you can take 1 buck or 1 doe. Then you can also get doe tags for our WMU's. I believe the limit is 3 doe tags, which is still alot of hunting. But I can't believe its unlimited for you, are you overrun with deer? I remember when I was a kid and I went hunting with my Dad we would always see big herds of deer 10-20 deer in a group. But things in my area have changed, now when hunting your lucky to see 2 deer together. So unlimited wouldn't be a good idea up here but I sure would like to come down there for a hunting trip and come back with a trailer full of meat!

The only bad thing about that is the does will still have suckling fawns with them. Can't quite muster the heart to kill a doe with a little fawn. Grown yearling, that's a different story. Sounds like a double.

We have the buck law which allow you to shoot a buck in season. We are only allowed to shoot a doe if you win a doe tag, except for a couple of zones you can hunt in that zone and shoot a doe also.

Edit: And hopefully they have the rules changed for crossbows in the early archery season.

Here, we have a big game tag that you buy. I am east of the Blue Ridge, (and it makes a difference), we get 3 either sex tags and 3 antlerless tags (that's the way it's listed :D ). West, and you lose one either sex tag. But we can buy all the antlerless only tags that you want, 2 deer per tag.
