UNDER CONSTRUCTION: AGING'S STOCKS

Post by one shot scott »

Hey guys, I thought i would give you a glimpse at the stock that I had agingcrossbower make up for me. Those who know me know that I have a weakness for the laminates. I bought a Y25 of course but I always wanted to have a thunbhole laminate for my other excal. The natural choice was to get in contact with Mike. So far i am very impressed with the way its turning out and wanted to show some pictures of it. If anyone wants a custom stock, get in contact with Mike! Hes good with wood    I wish I could figure out how to upsize the pics..

HERES THE BLANK FITTED FOR THE RAIL, CANT RECALL IF WE WENT WITH ROYAL CAMO OR IMPERIAL?? HELP ME HERE MIKE.

Thanks Neil! This stock is going to change in shape some yet but I always wanted to make that slip in thumbhole design opposite the cheek side. I swear everytime I even talk about it I get a chill. Something about sliding your hand in that recess cutoff and getting that good fit really is cool in my mind. Niel is great to work for, if only I could get him to stop yelling and cursing at me.  Just kidding Neil, your top notch. Thanks for posting the pics. :D

PS. I am starting to catch up on stocks, I believe i have 3 more ahead so anyone interested let me know. Sorry this would not be till after this hunting season.

Laminate, now you have my attention! She has some cool curves to it. It will be one of a kind for sure.

That is looking great :D I imagine the colours will really stand out in person when it is finished. Mine looked even better when I got it. Boofest may need a special competition of Aging stocks

For me the laminated stocks don't do much.
I like the style of stock Mike made for bugs.

It looks great Scott. That pattern at defined as it is now will really come out when the clear goes on.
Is there any weight difference in the Laminate to the usual woods aging uses ? I love the one piece stocks he does too, but the greyish stripes in the laminate will definately help it blend better with the rail.

The weight would be the same as the wood if not for the glue in laminates. The laminates are slightly heavier. Thats their drawback. The laminates gain in that the stains are all the way through instead of on the surface so a dent or ding can be sanded out without the fear of sanding through the stain. The laminates retain their straightness better than woods. Of course the woods have their advantages to. Woods are slightly lighter. Woods show the true nature of the wood, not manufactured. There are pro's and con's to both and its up to the customer to decide. For me woods have my nod. Always is exciting for me to uncover was God made.
PS. That stock is far fron done.

These pictures are still the early stages. Mike and I plan to have it ready for boo stock so there is still more work to be done. I just wanted to post a few pictures of it. She's already changed a bit since the last pic. I
Will update as it progresses
