a fishing trip and reminder........

Post by wabi »

..........that deer season isn't that far off. :D
Went to the farm I hunt deer on and hit the pond with my fly rod (6'6" 1wt fiberglass).
Managed to hook & release a few nice bluegills (the landowner wants all bass & bluegills released).
Had my photographer along (my son - it's his 12th birthday today so we went fishing so he could practice casting with the baitcasting outfit I gave him) so I got a picture of me with one of the bluegills (9" and full of fight).

As we were leaving a nice big doe wandered out in the field to feed and it made me feel a bit of the excitement that lays ahead.

On seeing her my son reminded me we need to get the muzzleloader I promised to set up for him (scoped & sighted in) before youth gun season. He got his first deer last youth season, so I guess he now feels the excitement, too.

Went out this morning as well and caught three nice pan sized rainbows . Actually I caught one and a buddy landed two . I suck at fishing so this was a feat for me . :)
Your boy is catching the disease . Warn him once you catch it he will spend a lifetime of chasing deer .

Awesome fish! I love to go fishing for panfish. There is a small reservoir about 30 minutes from my house via ATV that is full of smallmouth bass and sunfish. My son and I used to go there all the time and if for some reason the bass weren't hitting you could count on catching sunfish all day long!! We would take ultra lite rods and it made the sunfish a real blast to catch, especially when a good size one would take the bait. The sunfish are so plentiful in the reservoir that all we do is put about 1/4th of a nightcrawler on a hook with a bobber with about 16 inches of line past the bobber and within minutes the bobber is dancing. When my son was younger he loved going there because it was always nonstop action!!
