need help finding deer feeder kit

Post by wabi »

I'm sure I read about it on the forum, but I'm not finding it on a google search.
Someone makes a feeder kit that does not use a "spinner" (no electric motor to burn out), but uses a timer to dump a gravity fed holder full of corn once or twice a day.
This feeder uses a "can" to hold the corn which is filled from a barrel by gravity. When the timer releases a catch the can dumps, then when empty it swings back into place and the catch holds it there until the timer releases it again (12 or 24 hours later).

With the projected price of corn this year my old barrel feeder may be too costly to keep full!
It hold 100# of corn, but there's no way to regulate the amount critters can eat, and I hate to spend my cash so the coons & squirrels can feast around the clock.

That's the first time I have seen this type of feeder, for the price I think I will pick one up, it looks pretty good and simple.

So does anyone here have a setup using one of these?

Thats the one I was thinking of buying, will be interested in how long it takes you to get your order, and how you like the feeder. I'm thinking of using one on a 20 - 30 gallon barrel. I have a spinner type feeder but dislike the noise it makes.

Would appreciate if you could message me with how much the shipping cost.

That spinner noise is a dinner bell to the deer. :D

I've heard that also, but I guess the deer in my area do not like dinner bells lol but one year the dinner bell worked great for a bear.

I used to have the spinner type up where I'll probably hang this one (I'm going to use the bucket the spinner was on). I've seen it spook deer several times!
Had a fair buck coming in one evening and as he got close to being in range the feeder went off - he left there like his tail was on fire!

It did seem to be a dinner bell for the squirrels & coon, though.

BTW - After a replacement rate of no less than one/year I decided to set a gravity feeder (made from a 30gal barrel). It works great, but the 24/7 availability of free corn get far too many bucks conditioned to nocturnal feeding only. Plus it gets very expensive to keep operating!
I've had critters empty it (100# of corn) in 24 hours.

I also ordered the 9/12 feeder. I like the concept. In fact, I like the idea so much that after inspection of the one I ordered I may consider building a few for my own personal use. I mean, how hard can this be??? :?: A timer and mechanism that empty a can on an axis.......... Bring that old erector set out of storage and build one. Better yet, contract out to some nine year olds and have them build you one out of legos. :D

Maybe we should have some sort of forum contest to see who can come up with the most ingenious and/or outrageous mechanical feeder. I am getting a head start on the rest of ya and I    am thinking of incorporating a catapult into mine, lol.
