Took the plunge!

Post by speezack »

Well, at 67, (68 in a few days! ) I decided to buy a crossbow... been hunting about 50 years or more and usually with a long-gun or some pistol hunting, although I did some bow hunting with an older Ben Pearson Spoiler Plus I got about 25 years ago... a really nice bow that got me a few nice deer over the years.... gave the bow, a hard case and a bunch of arrows to my son last year... really like the thrill of bow hunting so.... yesterday, I went up to Bass Pro Shop and started looking around. Called a couple of local gun/archery shops and got some prices. I had been looking at Excalibur crossbows because I liked the simplicity and although I have had a compound... I always liked the re-curves, that classic look I guess... never had one however...

Did you all know that Bass Pro shop will meet any local price that you find as long as it is not online.... that saved me some money yesterday... I think that is a very nice feature of Bass Pro Shop and their salespeople were very knowledgeable...

Anyway, I got a really good price... new bow... Exomax, ShadoZone Light Stuff Package... hard case (which, although it is a nice one, I am now sorry I got, cause it is just too damn big... nice for storage though) I think I'm gonna have to get a soft case... sighted it in... very impressed.... it shoots a lot better than me!!!

So I guess I will try my old hand at a little crossbow hunting this fall.... probably from a ground blind... got an ATV to get me and the bow in the woods... lots of deer around me here in southern Virginia.

Will do some reading on this forum... look forward to reading and learning. :D

Speezack, did the same. Found a good price on-line, went to Bass pro. They told me that they wouldn't match an on-line price, but would match a local price. Ended up at Green top, they had a much better price and the bow (a Phoenix) in stock. I figured, why drive back to BP when they have what I want here. Went back later and got the soft case.

Yeah Roadrunner... I really think Greentop gave me the wrong price cause it was..... $140 under BPS..... but the sales-guy heard Greentop on the phone and they gave it to me at that price.... I started to get the Equinox but I figured for that much difference... and the only real difference I could see was the 'thumb-hole' so I went for the Exomax... I shot it in their range.... wow is all I can say.... if it is this accurate in the field and I can keep my composure... it should do really well.... I think I will need a couple of other accessories but I can pick them up closer to home.... I live in south-side VA and BPS is a bit too far for just the casual trip.... Dancer's is a lot closer....

I can't wait for bow season......................

I haven't been this excited since Sally Short Skirt said she'd go to the prom with me.................... well, maybe not that excited....
