Hunter Education Class
I spent the weekend ( 5hrs Sat. and 5hrs Sun.) sitting in on Coltons" Hunter Education Class".Since he's only 10 the instructor said it might be good if a parent stayed.I was impressed with the instructor and the class, and was really tickled that Colton scored a 100 on the test. While he makes GREAT grades in school, he is quite hyper and on medication for that. After sittin in on this class I know why some of his teachers are baffled by him.He would start to draw, and I would nudge him, he would lay his head down, and I would nudge him etc..etc for two days.I was scared we were going to have to take the course again because he hadnt been paying attention. Then they hand out the tests and he was the LAST one finished. The kids never done anything slow in his life.I just knew he hadnt gotten it, and the weekend was a wash, but the little squirt aced it and got his certificate!I guess I should have had more faith in him. Now we just have to work some more on the "still and quite" part of the hunt.He is really excited about the upcoming season and has been a pretty good participant in the make ready part of gettin' ready for the season. We'll just have to wait and see how all this unfolds I guess.Cant wait.

Re: Hunter Education Class
Congrats! The "still and quiet part" will take time. I went thru it with my oldest grandson. He's 16 now and quite the accomplished hunter. Things have come full circle. I used to be the one whispering for him to be still, don't make big movements, and/or be quiet. Now, when we occassionally sit together, and I try to have a meaningful conversation with him, whispering, of course, he tells me I talking too much, and making too much noise. I love it.

Awesome job Colton. Sitting still and being quiet is the hardest part of hunting. Long hours of seeing nothing with hopes of something coming out in sight. Best of luck to you both.

Congrats. Coltin and Dad,
The sit still/be quiet, part will come in time,
But' you will be suprised how fast it will come after his first kill,
It seems to bring everything together all at once,

Seems like the youngsters can do better on exams if they're interested in the subject!

My son is the same way. Can't sit still. Haven't taken him for hunter safety yet. Figure in another year or two.
