Reverse draw recurve crossbow
Reverse draw recurve crossbow
Does anyone make a reverse draw recurve crossbow?
Is this even a feasible engineering possibility? Why or why not?
Thank you

Wouldn't that mean you'd shoot yourself?

Would be kind of difficult without some sort of fulcrum (pulley) for the string... That's my thought.

Re: Reverse draw recurve crossbow
What is the purpose of a reverse draw xbow? Is it just a fad or is there a true advantage to the reverse draw concept?

Re: Reverse draw recurve crossbow
Reverse draw gives a longer stroke for the total size of bow (limbs are forward), allows the use of additional stroke equal to the diameter of the cams, more efficient use string movement and lower recoil.
What's the plan here et?

Also makes it more balanced, weight being centered.. I would own a scorpyd if the butt stock didnt look like abstract art.

I own a 125 and a 165 RTD. I also have a 150 Ventilator coming.HammerNAnvil wrote:Also makes it more balanced, weight being centered.. I would own a scorpyd if the butt stock didnt look like abstract art.

Any way to change the string in the field if you had to, i've heard of some that allow that.

You can change the string but not the cables.HammerNAnvil wrote:Any way to change the string in the field if you had to, i've heard of some that allow that.
I've never used a Scorpyd for hunting and don't know if I ever will. I do know that if I ever do I'll take a back up bow!

Re: Reverse draw recurve crossbow
The reverse draw bow or inswinger was developed by Romans a couple of thousand years ago, but were torsion not limb powered. Here is a link to a full sized "recurve" reverse draw torsion machine, the design is based on an iron frame found in an archeological dig in Orsova Romania.

It gets up to about 5000lbs of draw, and shoots "arrows" made from broomsticks and tipped with iron points. The arrows weigh over a lbs. There is not a problem in getting hole in hole shots at 50 yards shooting "offhand".
I built my own version on a Scorpyd crossbow frame, and it makes a nice house bow shooting 200fps with about 50lbs of pull. Others seem to like the design and now building their own versions:

I have no reason to believe my simple design wont do 400fps or better with maybe 150-200lbs pull. Not sure mine would be considered a recurve, but no cams or timing issues. String change takes about ten or fifteen seconds if your not in rush, and you can also change power levels or speed rather easily.
