stringing rope sleeve

Post by fredbeer »

The plastic sleeve on my stringing rope is getting chewed up by the claw hooks. Anyone just remove it and use the bare rope?

Being active duty military, i have a near endless supply of 550 paracord. i take a section, tie a few loops in the end, no serving and use it away... when it starts to show wear due to no serving, i toss it and tie a new one... my bow was used and didn't come with a stringing aid....

Shouldn't that be an indicator that you have some rough edges that could use some touching up with fine sandpaper?

Not neccessarily the sleeve is soft as far as plastic goes and do wear very quickly due to the pressure of the claw

But cleaning up the claw will help your serving life

I cut the sleeve off as soon as I pulled it out of the pack due to the advice I had seen on here from others. Bare string has been working perfect for me so far with no wear that I can see.

Thanks for the help everyone. I have polished the hooks with fine sandpaper per Boo's tutorial. Guess I'll use the original, minus the sleeve, until it shows wear then use one from Dereck, thanks Dereck. Never thought of paracord, might try it down the road.
