Which bow?
Which bow?
Which Excalibur bow setup would be ideal for a 6' male that has never owned a crossbow?

Re: Which bow?
At 6ft tall you could cock & shoot any model with no problem...my suggestion being a newbie would be either the axiom or ibex smf packages. Everything you need less the stringing aid to get started. And the 175lb bows are easy on the back and servings, and will kill anything in north america.
Good luck and welcome to the forum.

Re: Which bow?
Welcome.
I am a tad over 6ft mark with a bit of a build. I have the Equinox and love it. It can get to be a bit much shooting a lot like you might sighting it in. But for a hunt no problem.
As has been said the axiom or ibex would be a good choice too.
I bought the Equinox with the bigger is better concept but that's not really true as I have found out.
I would let your wallet lead the way. No matter which one you pick they all kill within the 40 yard mark.
Have fun

Re: Which bow?
My son bought the Eclipse XT and had planned to hunt with it this weekend but they sent the wrong model. He has to wait another week now. Have been looking at the Axiom. I shoot left handed and what are the advantages of the models with a thumb hole?
Re: Which bow?
I don't care for the t-holes, my favorite platform is an Exocet, 200#'s.......

Re: Which bow?
The thumbhole models seem to give me a bit more control than the traditional stocks. Mainly which ever one feels best in your hands. Try them both and then decide which is best for you. Either way you can't go wrong with Excalibur!

Thanks for the info!
Am leaning toward 200# draw weight. Can the Vortex and the Exocet 200 be converted to left hand use? Thanks.

Re: Which bow?
When in doubt Excalibur Phoenix has proven the test of time. Longest running model I do believe.
Re: Which bow?
The new vixen II (the camo ones) come only with a reduced length stock, which can be problematical, if you choose to shoot with the mechanical sights. Your head comes to close to the rear sight and you have too much "air" between the rear and the front sight. The picture is not that good for precise shooting. If you scope the vixen (like every normal man does
) , that's not a problem at all. That's why I switch to Phoenix, I liked the vixen, but the sight picture...
The #175 Excals have one more interesting feature. Do you know, that when you shoot a heavy arrow, smth like 460 grains or more, you give up only 3-4 fpe when using an Excel string? There is almost no difference in the energy at the business end of a #175 Excal between the FF and the Excel, when shooting 2219 arrows. The vixen and the higher poundage models (# 200 and #225) have slightly more energy with the FF and heavy arrow, smth like 8- 12 pfe. A lot of people think, that FF gives you every time + 15 fps, that's not the case with heavy arrow.
The conclusion is that Phoenix is much to cool not to buy it

Re: Which bow?
Thanks for the Phoenix info. Can the Phoenix be changed to accommodate left handed shooters
Also which package would you recommend
Again, thanks !

Again, thanks !
Re: Which bow?
As far as I know all Excaliburs can be shot left handed. The saftey is in the rear so thats not a problem. The quiver can be mounted on the left side so thats not a problem either. If the model you choose has a cheek piece you have to turn it around. I believe thats all thats needed.

Re: Which bow?
The Phoenix is fully ambidextrous, such as the most of the Excals. Maybe one of the other members can recommend the right package for you, I bought only the bow, 5 Gold Tip arrows, 1 spare string (I bought FF sting, but shoot the Excel), 1 string wax and 1 Negrini Bow Case Economy - Black (it is a tight fit, but does the job so far).
PS. I purchased the rope cocker as well.

Re: Which bow?
I like the 200# ers, but I haven't shot the 225s. My vortex does everthing I've needed to do with it, with power to spare! Completley severed the spine, took out the heart, and still hit the ground, on a big doe! I don't see that I need any more power than that. Did I mention how accurate it is? 1/2 inch groups at 50 yards is the norm! I love it!!!
