Eastern Sport and Fishing Show POSTPONED...

Post by lscha »

Looks like the fishing portion just got smaller too...

Hey everyone, talk about making a hole in displays… How about 6,500 Sq Ft of hole ! We recieved this from Towne Marine via email a short time ago !
“Due to recent ban on weapons by Reed Exhibitions at the Eastern Sports & Outdoor Shows, Towne Marine will be withdrawing their 30 boat display at this years show.
We are saddened we will not be attending our largest and best producing show all year but we stand elbow-to-elbow with our sportsman and refuse to do business with hypocritical gun activists.
Thank you for your business and we encourage you to come see us at the Philly Sportsman Show Feb 14 – Feb 17.
We support you the people!!!”

Mossberg and Sportdog Brand pulled out also.

Ischa,

Thank You for posting this latest bit of news.

I wonder if anyone has printed out the floor layout of the show and started crossing out those booths that won't be there.

I wonder what percentage of the show will ultimately not show up?

The exhibitor's list and floor plan showing them have been removed from the Eastern Sport and Fishing Show website, along with the experts and celebrity list.

.

"Reed Exhibitions of the United Kingdom announced last week that because of the "current climate that may attract negative attention," it won't allow the display or sale of assault or assault-style weapons and large-capacity ammunition clips at the Feb. 2-10 show at the State Farm Show Arena."

The following link is where the above quote was copied from:

http://articles.mcall.com/2013-01-21/sp ... rts-cabela

It appears their actions are bringing about the exact thing they were trying to avoid ... attracting negative attention.

It is a shame. A lot of good folk are going to be affected by their decision one way or the other.

This is the floor plan on the ESOS website. It has not been updated. Many of the vendors are still listed even tho they have withdrawn.
Many are announcing today because the show refused to reverse their decision.

On a side note: There are still those that believe an 'assault' type weapon was used in the Sandy Hook incident.

 it's so sad that a very small margin of wacko's make all of us gun owners look bad.

I was going to go this year since it has been a couple years since I last went. I was going to go and test out some Excalibur crossbows but now I'll have to find a local Dealer to go and shot them.

Said that the largest Outdoors Show on the East Coast is loosing vendors due to a dumb rule they had to make.

Hopefully this is not the end to the Show.

That's a shame for sure but I tip my hat to them for standing up for law abiding gun owners!
Gun control is like trying to reduce drunk driving by making it tougher for sober people to own cars.

Kodabow has posted a interesting article on there site bout this. There is more to this story than we know for sure, we are only getting part of the story, keep in mind Reed Exhibitions also host the SHOT show, The Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade Show in las vegas.

Oppie,

Thank you for posting this link.

Very informative read.

I was looking forward to meeting Larry Weishuhn (aka. Mr. Whitetail) again this year. Last year I met him and just could not believe how kind he was. Here is a guy I have read his articles for years in various magazines and there I was just sitting with him and talking for almost an hour. Class act is Larry Weishuhn.

Surprising Reed Exhibitions did not make the same decision for the SHOT show that just completed in Vegas. Why Harrisburg and not Vegas?

ONE exhibitor threatened to bring bad media coverage to this show if they allowed modern firearms to be shown or advertised. ONE. Reed made the decision based on the fear of bad press. There was no such action threatened at the Shot Show.

Being a British company, it seemed the reasonable thing to do......
