I'd say it is a Mountain Lion I've several trail cams pics from people in Texas with some large Mountain Lions on them. I've read where they will usually take at least 1 deer a week they can put a hurting on the deer population.

Left rear track from a 3 year old 85 lb female cougar that came into heat 4 days ago....she's headed south at a slow run!! Stay alert. :D

It's a mountain lion from what I can tell. Canines always have 2 pads in back of the footprint while felines have 3 :) I hope that helps you out. I would need to see the footprint in person to be 100% positive but you have a feline there for sure :)

I agree the fact there's no claw mark on the front of the paw does lean towards a bit cat. You need to get a couple of game cams up around the trail and get us a pic
Check for scats too, they will give you the extra evidence you need to be sure whats in the area.

Canines have claws showing. Felines have retractible claws (except for Cheetahs that I know of) so you don't see the claw print.
Like the pics/diagrams above.
Yep, I'd say it was a cat of some sort.

Yep, looks like a kitty to me. And I wouldn't want to try scratching that cats belly.
