Deer calling

Post by Onetimeonly x--> »

What has been your go-to call? Doe grunt/bleat. Buck grunt young buck/mature buck? Fawn distress? I do realize calling is time sensitive. What has worked well for you? Thanks.

I've got a bleat can that is very effective during the first two weeks of November.
Aside from that, I don't call. Too much pressure in my area.

Grunting and "The can" have both worked for me.

I use a loman Kameer deer call and rattle horns as well as a grunt call at different times of the year I hunt. Have had great luck with the Loman Kameer Deer call :D

Nothing beats my genuine Wabi turned call. It brings in both the boys and the girls. They look amazing and sound even better!

Thanks for all the replies! Myself I have several different calls the part I struggle with is accessing them without making to much movement or noise. Where do most keep their calls? Pocket around the neck, hanger? Is there a lanyard that keeps your calls spaced apart so they won't bang into one another? Access is what keeps most of my calls like new. Suggestions anyone?

I use calls late Oct, early Nov.

I have one of those cans that comes on the end of a squeeze tube - I took the tube off and use the can like a mouth call. That way it's not going off accidentally and I can control the volume and intensity better.

I use the can in combination with a grunt tube. I have one of Wabi's gorgeous calls and it brought in the 8 pointer I shot last year. It took time though - the deer first came in from one side and stayed out of range, then 1 1/2 hrs later it came in again from behind me.

I've called in several deer and I've learned that when you call they will often come in DOWNWIND so be prepared. They will come in looking for any movement so you need to FREEZE.

They have an incredible ability to pinpoint the source of the sound and probably more often see us before we see them. You can't be caught fidgeting with the calls when that happens. BE PREPARED.

Only use 2 calls, .grunt call and the Penn Woods ma-maaa call. I swear by the Ma-Maa call. Me and my son have taken more deer in last 2 years than we can believe, and in diff states.4 bucks and 7 does, and we only shoot what we can eat, we don't go for our limit. Hawk

I try to keep my calls hanging on something beside me, or in my front pocket, not around my neck, I always end up making noise with my call hitting my bow or rifle when I have them around my neck.
